Help! New Roof Color & Exterior Color Scheme
Comments (6)Have you tried driving around the neighborhood to see what roof colors houses with similar brick and siding colors have? Or cleaning and sanding the cedar to lighten it a little? I had the same color cedar shutters with a similar color brick and changed from a brown to a Timberline Weathered Wood roof. Once the shutters were sanded, it looked nice, but I ended up painting them anyway since I wanted a change. SW Oak Creek for shutters and SW Riverway for door. I think the HGTV Neutral Nuance color palette might offer some good options for color schemes. Or try going to any paint store and looking at the exterior color combos that they put together. I also think that the GAF Mission Brown would be a good roof color. It's a good compromise between Weathererd Wood and Barkwood....See MoreNeed Help With New Deck Color Scheme!
Comments (2)I thought the floor should be lighter, too. But I spent several hours at the paint store and at home trying out different colors and still cannot decide. Designer here for about an hour and even he was stumped, but finally said to paint everything the same dark taupe color to make it disappear! These are extensive stairs and decks.... They are not going to disappear.... And the color looks like a military installation of some sort, or perhaps a submarine. Very discouraged.....See MoreNeed New Build Exterior Colours Advice
Comments (19)@virgilCarterfineart The doors have already been ordered. Here is a photo of wood doors with blue siding. It looks great but Im not sure the stone we are choosing above is working. We are also worried that maybe it just too much stone that's planned on the elevation drawings. Because the doors have been ordered the nest step after the doors being installed is stone and then siding according to our builder....See MoreAdvice on Historic Row Home Exterior Paint Color Scheme
Comments (7)I addition to painting there are other things you can do to bring back some of the historic character of the buildings. Doors of an appropriate style will add more historic character. The commercial entrance on the blue building needs to be more of a feature. One way to do that is to paint the red door to the right of the entrance the same color as the siding so the eye is not drawn to that area. Kickplates could be added under the windows on building with the purple(ish) door. Since picture windows were on most commercial buildings adding them to these windows would return some of the character of a commercial space. Awnings could be added over some of the windows. See if you can find some historic photos of the buildings to see what was there previously. There might have been dentil molding or corbels on the cornice along the top of the blue building that could be recreated. Signage is another area that can aide in bringing more historic character to a building. Using overhanging signs is appropriate, and also, since the buildings are so close to the street allow people to know who and where a business is. You need to put together a list of things you want to do and then rank them in order of what has to be done, what you really want to do and finally what would be nice to do but is not a priority. If there is a local Historic Preservation/Planning Department they can be an valuable resource for you. Good luck....See Morebennyben75
