Tell us what you think--coward.

Do you need to wait to see what your handlers think?

As to citizens who have served time and have been released....do you think they should be permanently stripped of voting rights because they have a felony on their record?

Should we allow an unindicted co-conspirator to serve in the Whitehouse while his attorney/co-conspirator is in jail for the same crime?

We allow those imprisoned to vote. The Supreme Court ruled the purpose of incarceration was to restrict freedom for the good of society but not to eliminate all your rights.

I think Bernie has a good idea. After all, prisoners are counted when drawing up voting districts, so they should be able to vote. This is a no-brainer.

If there was a guarantee that prisoners would vote republican, then you can be assured they would already be voting.

The Boston Marathon Bomber, who murdered children, adults and maimed hundreds should be able to vote, yeah right.

Is this what you want, America?

Bernie calls Trump a 'criminal' and he wants actual, convicted, imprisoned criminals to have power to select the leaders in this country.

What a fraud Bernie is.

Yes and I'd also like to see Trump, G. Bush, Cheney & a bunch of others convicted of their crimes, sent to prison, and still be eligible to vote.

catkin, they won't go down this path and Bernie exposed his true radical agenda. Prisoners would vote mostly Democrat, given the demographics. In some areas, allowing all incarcerated prisoners and even death-row inmates could flip entire counties.

That's why Bernie wants it.

But, ok. Let's let every felon own guns after they've served their time. Convicted pedophiles can live wherever the want, even next to schools. No terrorists on no-fly lists and we could go on and on and on about restoring every single right back to convicted criminals if Bernie wants to go down this path.

Blow up Americans, including children and you get to vote. Heck, you even get your face on the cover of the Rolling Stone.

The Socialist Democrat party wants murdering terrorists, child molesters, rapists and murderers to regain a right to vote AND they want those in prison to be able to vote..

Who thinks child molesters would vote to protect children?

Who thinks rapists would vote for women's rights issues?

Who thinks murderers would vote for gun control/confiscation?

Let that sink in, America.

Who thinks convicted terrorists are going to vote for national security and border enforcement? For a President who takes a hard-line stance against radical terrorism and builds up our military? They will vote for the candidate who promises open borders and "tolerance" as they ensure we willingly further expose our carotid, because it makes us such good world citizens.

Oh, let's also forget suspending or permanently revoking anyone's license to drive if they've had DUIs or heck, even vehicular homicide. Everyone over 16/17 has the right to the freedom of driving and holding a job which requires a job for transportation.

Here's a question- If people have been found so dangerous and bad for society that they must be removed from society, why should they be given the power to decide how society lives?

Do you assume an unreformed criminal will act in society's best interests while incarcerated by that same society?

Or that they will not engage in voting to spite the rest of society that incarcerated them as a singular voting bloc, as a mass of sex offenders did in Coalinga, California in 2017?

In some areas/counties/parishes, the prison population is the largest voting bloc by sheer numbers. That incarcerated voting bloc could decide how free society lives and operates.

I have no problem that when people have paid their debt to society their voting rights be restored. But for people like the Boston bomber and other murderers who took away the voting rights of people forever.,,not a chance.

margie, the narratives that I can see being presented, in the form of a binary choice when it comes to the general election, are "Capitalism vs. Socialism", "Open borders vs. secure borders", "Protection of viable babies in the womb vs. late-term abortion at will and infanticide" and "Rights for terrorists vs. protecting law-abiding AMERICAN citizens' rights, safety and will to govern America".

And so much more. This is just the beginning.

Convicted felons do not lose their citizenship, therefore they should not lose the right to vote that is attached to that citizenship. In my opinion.

Oh, how I agree about the binary choice narratives! It's incredible watching these candidates out-left one another. Several months ago, as they started announcing and some (like me) were quite surprised how far left they were coming out as, a few liberals said they thought they'd come out with big ideas but would pull back to more manageable, doable, and affordable ideas (less drastic) as time passed. Just the opposite seems to be happening and without an ounce of detail to go with the big promises. They are truly all in with socialism!

Did you see the young woman (maybe college age) whose parents were from Russia asking Bernie how his ideas would succeed when socialism always goes badly? That was interesting.

Not sure how any honest person could hear to what Sanders says in that video and disagree. Is the outrage retroactive for the state of VT?

Wondering if everyone decrying him actually listened to it all the way through?

And I don't think Tsarnaev is even a US citizen, so chances of him actually voting are pretty slim.

What of the 2nd amendment? Should felons be allowed to own guns after they've served their time and paid their debt to society?

What of allowing citizens to have a license to drive after felony DUI, or vehicular homicide? They've served their time. Their debt to society is paid.

What of "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" in prison? These are endowed by our Creator, no?

We sentence citizens to death.

We take away their liberty.

Prison does not exist to bring happiness and can be hell on earth.

What of those rights endowed by our Creator? How can we take them away via incarceration? How can we sentence people to death? How can we create super max prisons which suck joy out of the atmosphere?

Why are Democrats chiseling out voting, among all these things we as Americans, are endowed by our Creator?

...because it's a guaranteed majority Democrat voting bloc. 2+ million.

I think I know why they want people who are incarcerated to vote... because a lot of them are illegal aliens and it's a back-door channel to give illegals the vote.

Actually, I don't have a problem with people who have served their time having their voting rights restored. Certain criminals should be very happy with President Trump's First Step Act and we may even see an increase in ex-cons voting more conservatively.

Does anyone have any doubt that the media starts its election coverage way too early?

I wish we could just table the 2020 election talk until 2020. It's too early to form an opinion on who the Democratic nominee should be and that's why I think threads of this nature are not going to get much in a way of response from the posters who are Democrats.

For the Bernie supporters, your responses are to be expected. As for me and it's just my opinion, it is way too early.

This does to me come under the same auspices of letting 18 yr olds vote because they were old enough to be used as cannon fodder. If you count felons for representation then shouldn't those 18 and older be allowed to vote. Given that too many of them are in prison for stupid things like drug use and who decides why you get sent to prison for that shouldn't they have a say? We frequently have people here reveling in the idea that prison can be a vicious uncontrolled world where prisoners are allowed to prey on each other and if I were a prisoner I would want to have some input into that. Food for thought.

Cher doubles down, bless her heart.

Pop star Cher defended herself from attacks on social media Tuesday in a series of now-deleted tweets after she was criticized for questioning Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) plan to let felons and terrorists vote.

“TERRORIST KILLED INNOCENT PPL. IM SICK OF BEING NAILED 2 CROSS BECAUSE U PPL THINK IM A RACIST‼️IM NOT GOING TO DEFEND MYSELF‼️I CARE 4 ALL PPL,TRY TO HELP ALL PPL,” Cher said. “Excuse The F*** Out Of Me If I don’t want ,Murders, Rapists, &; CHILD MOLESTERS of every color to vote.”

Ari Berman today on Democracy Now! nails it.

"ARI BERMAN: Well, this really is not as radical as it seems. As you mentioned, two states—Vermont and Maine—already allow prisoners to vote. Virtually every other industrialized democracy in the world allows prisoners to vote.

And it’s not about whether terrible people should lose all of their rights or be punished. It’s about whether you lose fundamental citizenship just because you did one thing wrong. And it’s interesting. Prisoners are already counted for redistricting purposes, so they are already counted where they are incarcerated, but yet they’re not allowed to vote. So it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. And if you believe the purpose of prison is not just punishment, but rehabilitation, then allowing people to still have one of their most fundamental civic responsibilities is a key aspect of rehabilitation.

So I’m glad that we’re having this conversation. I hope it’s not demonized in the way that many media are talking about it, saying, “Should the Boston bomber be allowed to vote?” That’s incredibly disingenuous. That’s not the conversation we should be having. It’s about should millions and millions of people be stripped of their fundamental rights. And I think that’s the question we need to be having in this country."

"Did you see the young woman (maybe college age) whose parents were from Russia asking Bernie how his ideas would succeed when socialism always goes badly? That was interesting..."

I didn't think it was interesting at all since Bernie has answered that many, many times in the past. But anyway, is this the young woman you mean in the picture below? She seems very comfortable with McConnell. Maybe that's because she is a member of the Harvard Undergrad Centrists Society and has parents who live in a $6 million house in Silicon Valley/ Huh.

I think Bernie is/was an idiot to take this position and Kamala going halfway there with him (thinking America should have the conversation) and then backing away from it shortly thereafter (and expressing firm opposition) was super awkward. Three really bad moves from those two.
