Oakley - I get what you're saying. I guess my house doesn't scream tons of color. I do have some candles and other accessories that aren't in these pics but overall my house is more muted I suppose. Funky - Good point about Reno's being more grounded. Those were the words I couldn't find. You're probably right but the thought of dark doors still hasn't left me . . going to wait, going to wait! Natal - Yeah, I've been searching and debating about a rug. Rectangular ones the correct size for under the table seem almost too large for the floor space (ends up too close to the wall with no pic). I may have to go with a round rug. Leah - *Smacking self on forhead* I know what cleats are. :) I'm a little sleep deprived as of late and it's showing. Thanks for mentioning to go to her blog. It was nice looking at all the window treatment pics. Nanny - I'll try some fruit or something on the table. I do have a glass pedestal on the island that we use for real fruit so the fruit may be too much for the table also?

It’s really subjective ... personal taste. And hard to say with no context — your house color, the yard around it, your decor likes, etc. So many directions you could go with this. I think doing the posts in a darker stain and fence panels/deck in lighter stain would look nice. I also like the idea of multi-colored stain for the deck part only, but it could look busy. If you consider it, then I’d pick one color from your multi, for the fencing. Hopefully, someone who can do color mock-ups sees this. If not, you might want to try Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, etc, and see if they could do some color mock-ups for you. This is a big job, I’d just want to get a good visual idea before starting. It’s beautiful work already — hope you update us, I’d like to see how it all turns out. :) Dark with light accents ... not what I’d choose with as much wood as you have there.

I really like this house and a lot of the features and architecture. Please do not paint the ceilings or whitewash that gorgeous stone fireplace! Those are really stunning features that work well with the mountain modern style of this house. I think the house will look much more up to date with fewer and more up to date furnishings. The front living room furniture in particular is a bit too loud for my taste. If it were my house, I would consider re-doing the railings if it was in budget. If not, I would probably paint the blue horizontal rails to black. I don't mind the vertical wood posts but the blue is a little too much for me personally and I think the railings would look better if they were more streamlined. Either thinner, square horizontal black rails or maybe cables or even glass. I don't mind the carpet in the sunken family room though it could be nice to have consistent wood throughout. I don't mind the tile in the kitchen or the entry and sometimes it can be nice to have a break in materials. And stone and wood really go well with a mountain modern look. I might prefer a different stone tile, but that's just a personal preference. If you redo the floors, I'd go real wood rather than laminate. Otherwise it will look fake against all of the other real wood. The kitchen layout does not seem very optimal with the cooktop on the end of the island, but I'd want to live in it to figure out what works and what doesn't. Something about the dark reddish stain isn't quite working for me, but again that might be a personal preference. It would be quite expensive to redo the whole kitchen so you'll have to decide if it's worth it. But whatever you do would need to fit with the style of the house.

If you want to leave the wood panel and floors and stone fireplace, then go for it with Arts + Crafts, like wall covering and fabric from William Morris or Bradbury. Your room could look amazing. Do some research on Morris and Bradbury to get a feel for the luscious "camp" style.
