What primer, paint, lacquer to use for painting kitchen cabinets,
Comments (8)Thank you for your comments guys. After further research I evaluated the options and it was between extreme durability or safer for the environment and health option. Apparently many of you may know lacquer is very toxic because of the very high VOC. Even if painted outside which it should always be the case but even later after drying it continues to release toxins in the air for the next 6 months or more. Who knew it has such affect on us even aftet drying. For example Kemvar Conersion Varnish is what my cabinet/painter wanted to use because it is very durable but very high on VOC. I think i will go with Paint from SW primer and paint coat as a healthier and safer option. I rather compromise durability vs health but i sure hope paint will hold good too on cabinets. Comments (7)Farrow and Ball is good for walls and ceilings. I never tell a painter what product to use. If I don't like what they want to use and warranty, I find a different painter. BenM's Advance is good as advertised but I agree that there are better products for cabinets especially when in the hands of a pro who knows what they're doing with it...See Morepainting kitchen cabinets to a cream color
Comments (6)Agree with eastautumn. Can you add pictures with the cream paint swatches you are considering next to whatever is permanent? For instance, the countertops looks nice, so will they stay? Hard to tell, but do they have cream in them? They look to be more white and grey in the photo. Will your white table and chairs stay? The terracotta colored tile floors? I know it can be so hard to chose paint because the colors can look so different once in your home and lighting. It can even change because it is reflecting off of a strong floor or wall color. The undertones can vary so much and get confusing. Some may lean yellow, or brown, green, or even pink. Do you know anyone that has a good eye for color that can come over and help you choose? I also think it would be good to get small paint samples once you narrow it down and paint some poster boards. Live with them up for several days, moving them around the kitchen, so you can see the color at all times of day or night. I also wanted to mention about the hardware. I know you said you are not changing them at this time and that is perfectly fine. But you might think about whether you would prefer the knobs to be in a different location in the future. They are fine like you have them, but maybe the upper knobs are higher then you’d like, and vice versa on the base cabs. Or maybe you would want to change them out for handles someday? Since you’d need to use that existing hole or cover over it, make sure it will work with whatever handle style or size you like. If it will be an issue, it would be so much easier to deal with before new paint as they can fill the holes....See Morepainting kitchen cabinets to go with Typhoon Bordeaux granite
Comments (4)No! No painting those cabinets! I don't know what "right" means to you, but I think the wood is beautiful. I'd change out the counter before I'd paint the cabinets (it might cost you less, too). The tile backsplash is making it all look too heavy, remove the 4" granite strip splash and re-do the tile in a light creamy color that coordinates with the granite. Even better -- switch out the granite and re-do the backsplash....See Moreemmarene9
