Twin bed into King - guest room dilemma
Comments (28)Thanks for all the input. While I know my parents would be OKAY if they HAD to sleep apart, since they use the guest room the majority of the time, I would rather make them more comfortable and let them sleep together. They spend at least one weekend a month here, and often more. Hubby and I have been married for 12 years, and while we would not prefer to sleep apart, I guess we would if we HAD to. Though like someone else mentioned, we'd more than likely just cram ourselves into one twin...which would not be an easy feat since I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and hubby is 6ft2in and 260 lbs! I guess I am trying to be more accommodating to the less often guests (which is probably silly since they ARE less often...) - my MIL and SIL who absolutely REFUSE to share a bed, so SIL ends up on the living room couch which is very disruptive to our family, as we (especially our kids) are early morning risers and she is not. Or for when my single brothers come and visit with their girlfriends, and my conservative house rules indicate you can not sleep together here unless you are married. So brothers get one room and their girlfriends get somewhere else. It could be awkward to make either one of them share a single bed. Thanks for posting the inspiration pic. I'm glad to see you guys think that would work because I think that is the direction we will head. Since it seems like a relatively easy DIY project, we can size it so it fits the two beds and two small nightstands, which could either go in between the twins or outside the "king." I am not sure if we could fit XL twins in that room. I'll have to look at the dimensions. I was thinking we could turn the mattresses to fit the king dimensions, but that wouldn't work unless we had a separate king bed frame, which isnt going to happen. I do plan on buying that foam filler insert thing as well as a nice plush mattress pad to top the two and hopefully hold them together. Now I get to obsess over colors :) I will definitely post pics when done, though it will be a while. This is a new build that HOPEFULLY will be breaking ground later next month....See MoreYour Opinions Please: Guest Room Dilemma
Comments (22)Dgmarie, You know, that's a question I don't have an answer for. DS is 5'11'' and fairly slender. I think they were wrestling around in there. Mpwdmom, a single mattress doesn't fit under a single bed . . . I tried that already. And anyway, although I'd put my DS or his friends on a mattress on the floor or an airbed in a heartbeat (that's exactly where they slept last week here during Spring Break ), my parents are 78 & 80 years old and could never get up off of one. I'm LOL thinking about Dad on an air mattress . . . kind of like a big tortise stuck upside down on his shell, but IRL it would be a disaster. I'm going to check out the rest of your suggestions, though. Thanks for ALL your ideas and links. I really appreciate it!...See MoreGuest Room Bed Dilemma!
Comments (9)I haven't slept on that exact one but I have slept on several different brands of inflatable beds. Everyone has been a wonderful sleep. We have one that isn't raised but it is very deep. We slept on it for 15 nights this past Spring and it was a great sleep every single night. It has a very nice comfort top to it and DH and I both commented that it was better than our bed at home. My brother had a high end inflatable mattress on his fold out couch instead of the one that came with itâ¦he paid to have the inflatable instead. It was great and I slept on it for weeks at a time for several years when I stayed at his place in NYC .DH was with me on several occasions and again commented on how comfortable it was. I can't imagine that the one you are looking at would be any less wonderful. Sounds like a more practical solution for you and also no one is going to be using it for weeks at a time anyway. Only concern would be the pump. Can you ask online and see what the response is ? I know you can on Amazon. good luck . c...See MoreWhat Makes a Good Guest? A Good Host? Guest Room?
Comments (71)Well, that's not our problem, for sure. Our Florida vacation guest room has an unfortunate limitation that prevents virtually all abuse -- it's just over 7' deep by 7' wide, with a pocket door, 2 small closets separated by built-in drawers to the right of the door and a single bed to the left, window straight ahead with a little side table below it. For obvious reasons it's used by easy-going singles who aren't claustrophobic, but it's nice and comfy and works very well. Notably (aside from a second single bed, writing table, and reading chair of course), it holds almost everything that article recommends. Extra pillows and blankets of varying softnesses and thicknesses, bath linens, small space heater, fan, are all ready in closets that are otherwise empty for guest use. An adjustable reading light is mounted on a wall so the little side table remains clear, and decor is simple and serene. The drawers are topped by a mirror, and their top holds a couple of welcoming things, including chargers plugged in and ready in a basket. Most of the other useful items mentioned in the article, including toiletries and meds, are waiting in the drawer(s). No TV so far, though I would like to add one, and flowers stay outside, but otherwise... Once the business of switching out the weird jello-wobbly bed that came with the place for a good one with soft, smooth linens was attended to, the rest of the comfort was/is easy and inexpensive....See Moregirl_wonder
