The office and foyer look to have good natural light while the kitchen does not. If that's true, based on the progression I outlined above, I would put the lightest color in the kitchen, a mid-range shade in the foyer and the darkest color on a color strip card in the office. Use the flooring as your key, and go with blue or yellow undertones, all depending on the warmth or "coolth" of the flooring color. For example, if you have yellow undertones you might try a selection of more pastel olive greens (usually yellow based) or if cool, some sage greens have more blue undertones. Christopher Lowell has an easy method to help you get a good neutral that is not influenced much by blue or yellow, but a true neutral for a good background. Here is his video "7 layers of design." Regardless of forever home or not it would make sense to utilize the closet better for all of your 'office' stuff so if that means getting an outlet put in there so the printer and all your stuff on the tall shelving can go in there - that would be wise. Then, daybed or not, replace the tall shelving and nightstand with a continuous low closed storage furniture piece - maybe like this photo - this will open up the room visually. This furniture piece can function as a nightstand and office storage. Closed storage is your friend in this space. Replacing the closet doors with slider doors would allow for the 'office' to function easier. Maybe the inside of the closet is converted to half 'closet' for guests use and half 'office' with shelves for printer and office supplies. Then, once you decide on daybed or not I'd repost an updated photo and we can help with rearranging art. I think where you have it now is not doing the room any justice. I could see it consolidated/edited on the wall where the tall shelving is as that will create a focal point.

Beautiful office (and cute kid, too)! Would you have enough room to push the bookcases together toward the middle of the wall or maybe slightly off to one side? Put a large plant in the corner and you’re good to go!

I am looking to remodel my office with new shelves for all my books. Currently, I have two (2) home-built bookshelves that are bulky and no longer have any space left for additional books. I am looking to build some shelves to store all my books and give the office a "fresher" look. Thus, I am thinking floating shelves would be nice. My dilemma is whether I should do the floating shelves all around, in opposite corners, along 2 of the walls. This may look nice as it would balance the shelves instead of having it along one wall or corner. I know I cannot do it all around given that the office doors open towards the inside and there is an outward-facing window. I am including a layout for your reference. The office walls are 12 feet high so I have heard, from interior designers, that the shelves can go up to 2/3 of the entire height. I am thinking I will need anywhere from 5-7 shelves depending on the layout. By the way, I can certainly move the office desk to a different wall, if need be. I have it facing outward as I work from home and like to look outward. Other questions (1)Should I use floating shelves or use L-shaped brackets which also look nice and will support more weight (books are heavy)? the L-shaped brackets will be less work as I am looking to do this work myself. (2) Should I use wood stained shelves or paint them? I would like my office to feel like a library as folks go into it. The walls are currently painted BEHR Etched Glass which, in the sunlight, looks a tad blue (very light blue). (3) Any recommendations as to what to do with the space above the door OR the space above the shelves will be appreciated. Perhaps I can get some art. I like contemporary and modern art; especially with Mediterranean colors, themes which would go very nicely with my wall colors. (4) How thick should the wood be? I am thinking 1.5 to 2".
