Toaster Oven in the Pantry?
Comments (14)7 walls! Wow, I can't wait to see the layout of this space! Sounds, interesting : ) Yeah, I'm much happier without my walk in pantry because I just couldn't keep it organized. It was where everyone stuck stuff and shut the door. I'm sure others on here would have had it figured out. And maybe now that I've been on GW for a couple of years I could even figure it out. But it's gone and I'm looking forward to the day we put a soapstone heater in it's place. Right now we have an extra table in that spot that interestingly enough is the new clutter catcher space . . . why am I not surprised? My DW keeps coming home with stuff that he can't bear to throw out as he cleans out the old family home. And guess where it lands? LOL now that I think of it, maybe we should have kept the walls and door. So the Winchester tile is the same thickness as the Brittany Coggs? And is it also undulated (wavy) so that it picks up the light? Wow! It's still pricey. Do you remember what the B C field tile cost? I'm glad at least that I don't have a huge area to tile. I have 12 - 15 sq ft so it shouldn't be too bad. Your tiles really look lovely! I've been trying to decide between BC and undulated white subways, seeing your kitchen makes me lean toward the BC. I think part of the trick will be figuring out what color field to go with. My cabinets are creamy white, so I will need to get samples and figure out what color tiles match or go the best. I'm pretty sure, though, if I go with BC that I'd want the blue deco tiles that I posted above. I love the way the blue-green-grey colors go with the soapstone....See MoreSecond built-in oven in butler's pantry- Thoughts?
Comments (6)Sounds like a great idea - I put my countertop convection oven in my pantry - not exactly a butler's pantry but it gives me one more cooking option - I failed to put on a second breaker - so if every light is on in the kitchen - pop - need sparky to come by to fix:-) In any case, I would make it a wall oven with a landing zone so you don't have to crawl on the floor to dig something out of the oven....See MoreKitchen remodel: range vs wall ovens, walk-in vs wall pantry?
Comments (22)You’ll be surprised at how much larger the range ovens can be than wall ovens. This is due to a lot of details but mainly because its easier to fit the electronics, thermal buffering, etc into a range so the oven cavity is bigger.... Although I’m partial to wall ovens (being one of those freaks that likes to hide every possible appliance due to the common open-concept living)......I can’t deny how nice it would be to have the ovens that are available in a range. I always say: the kitchen you’ll LOVE MOST is a kitchen thats functional for how YOU live. You can have the most magazine ready kitchen & still hate it if it doesn’t work for your lifestyle so forget all the fads & “rules” (as long as its not a structural or code rule hah)....If ur family tends to reach for snacks, drinks, etc while ur cooking then I say make it a priority to place your work triangle outside that zone! Wall pantries can absolutely hold just as much *if not more* than many of the small corner pantries that often have awkward corner shelves which are wasted storage space. straight boxes with pull outs don’t suffer wasted space which makes it possible to hold more items ☺️. I can see why you’d want to double up the next wall pantry area...Have u considered placing the cooktop in the corner & the wall ovens in the cabinet area beside the new closed in opening (in place of the upper/lowers)?...See MoreDouble Oven in Pantry?
Comments (21)Hi Shandy, the design process is so exciting, but it’s easy to fall in love with ideas that don’t pan out the way you imagined. Kitchen design advice is not too expensive, and very worthwhile, often much more helpful and practical than architect advice! I agree with the rest of the commenters that you do not want your ovens in the pantry. I have 4 kids and would not want them “helping” us cook in a pantry (they love to put the cookie sheet in, watch things cook, etc, and they only love cooking and learning more as they get older - imagine teens). Agree with everyone else re: the heat and elbow room/landing area, etc. One GREAT find for our family was an Advantium oven/microwave. It doubles as our 2nd wall oven, and after learning how to use it, I LOVE it. We cook fish in it, chicken in it, pizzas, turkey & cheese melts, you name it. You have to learn how to use it properly, otherwise you just have a really expensive microwave, but I swear that if you put just a little bit of time into learning its functionality, it will be your favorite appliance, and it saves space. Personally, I am not at all a fan of the microwaves that go down around your crotch area for your kids to use at will. Maybe just me, but I don’t like my kids throwing all kinds of crap in the microwave and making a mess. They can use the microwave solo when they are older, can reach it, and know what they’re doing. Also, not a fan of bending down and using an oven under my range. I am currently pregnant, and my husband and I are no spring chickens anyway, so it’s nice to eliminate all the bending. It’s worth it to find some space for the wall ovens out near your island. One last plug: we put a second sink in our island, a slightly smaller prep sink also with disposal offset to one side of the island, since my husband and I like to cook together. Nice in a big family. We just finished a long dreamed of remodel ourselves, and no matter what you do, you always realize afterward exactly what you wish you had done! I let go of the idea of a big pantry due to wanting that space for other priorities - there’s always a trade off. But I hope you have fun with it and use it in good health!...See MoreTerri Wilson
