What would you do to give my house more curb appeal?
Comments (24)While there have been a lot of good suggestions, the first thing I would work on is the right side of the house (Picture right). The way your bushes are currently cut, they emphasizes the slope. I would replace or significantly cut back the bush to the right of the steps (middle of the porch) I would let the one on the end grow to a greater height or replace it with something that grows taller ie Lilac, Rose of Sharon, or Spirea While some have mentioned limb up the tree, The tree as is, blanks out the slab wall of the house next door so I would keep it so I could mow under it. (to me that wall visually detracts from your house. ) It looks like it is close enough to the, that as you drive past your house you would never see the slab wall. The above could be done for less than $50. When you decide to spend more I would work on the front steps. However instead of making them square, I may consider making it half round out of bricks. In this way you would have the functionally egress you currently have, but the open welcoming presentation of the suggested square steps. Eventually I may add a landscape wall out toward the right (picture) ending in a large flowering bush like Lilac, rose of Sharon, or Spirea. I would plant flowers in the planter that was created such as roses or perennial....See MoreHelp! NO Curb Appeal on our Colonial, what can we do?!
Comments (58)All great points NHbabs! Thank you. We will have to see how quickly the boxwood grow, but can plan to trim them each year if needed. The Arborvitaes may have actually all died over the winter, so we will have to wait and see if they come back and if not perhaps replant new ones further apart or plan to have them topped each year. Once again, thank you!...See MoreDo you have any advice to give this exterior more curb appeal?
Comments (20)Thank you all so much. I appreciate the input. Celerygirl, seeing the colors imposed on the house is amazing. I like them all. Probably favor the top one. Can I bother you for the paint name? Love the door, would never have picked something like that! Houssaon, The belly board is the the strip that separates the bottom brick from the upper siding? It really does make a difference in the sample house you posted. It would run from the left side of the house, over the garage doors, little porch area, over the first floors windows and then ends at the right side of the house? I really like that idea. Thank yo so much. Ohio, Thank yo for you recommendation. Is there room for taller windows, which I far prefer, and if so, would you install windows with or without mullion? K Laurence and Decoenthusiast, I agree, however, we listed our house, expecting it to sit a while and it sold in 2 days. Our rental has fallen through and our timeframe for remaining in the area lengthened longer than anticipated. We have a trusted contractor who can supposedly do it all in 2 months (fingers crossed!!!!). If this falls through, we have no where to go :( Thank you all so much!! p.s. what do you think about the little porch area? can anything be done to enhance/change the railing....See MoreWhat can I do to add curb appeal? Change color shutters/door?
Comments (9)Agree with houssaon about removing the shutters. Keep the white fascia and trim and porch posts. Do you have a favorite bold color that you might want for your front entry door color rather than white? If so, you might also consider painting your white porch chair(s) that same color. You could add a post with a solar light and brackets for a pair of hanging baskets centered in front of the windows to the right beside your porch. You could add some plants around the post that will climb the post and provide colorful blooms. You might add a plain concrete bird bath to your yard. You could create a walkway to the bird bath with pavers with grass in between the pavers....See Moreacm
