Black vs. Oil Rubbed Bronze Hardware?
Comments (9)It depends on the ORB you are looking at. Some ORB is very dark, almost black. Some is more of a warm dark tan. Keep in mind as well that if the ORB you're looking at does not have a PVD coating, the finish will wear off over time and you will have shiny brass showing through from underneath the finish. They call this a "living finish." If that is not something that you think you'd like, then stick with the black. We are doing something similar in our kitchen: white cabs, Verde peacock granite, SS sink & faucet as well. We were originally going to do either black or ORB hardware, but finally decided on brushed nickel. It's a lot more cost effective, looks great, and you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off. Also, I *think* that black hardware's finish can wear off over time as well, but don't quote me on that. Look into it. We looked at Colonial Bronze Hardware (and ultimately bought from them) b/c they have a lifetime warranty on the finish, as long as you don't clean it with abrasive cleaners/scrub it, etc. Their black and ORB hardware is gorgeous. Made in the USA too! And since your granite doesn't really have any brown tones in it (right?), the ORB may not tie in as well as the black would. There is black in your Emerald Pearl I assume? Might tie in better than ORB. Both the ORB and the black will be heavy contrast against the white cabinets, which can be beautiful. The satin nickel we chose will kind of disappear, but we are ok with that. Ultimately, it comes down to what YOU want and not what everyone else "is doing," so don't get hung up on that! You have to live with it and love it; that's most important. Think about what will tie in best with your granite. What is your wall color btw?...See MoreOil rubbed bronze vs. dark oil rubbed bronze
Comments (10)Our door hardware is like that in your first photo - a very dark brown with just a touch of the lighter shade showing through. I really like it. I have found that matching it exactly in some of the other accessories that I've brought in has been impossible, but even that lighter shade looks just fine with it, IMO. I love ORB. I think I'll still love it even when it's no longer "in style." ;-)...See MoreDo black light fixtures and black clash with oil rubbed bronze pulls?
Comments (5)Hard to say because an oil rubbed bronze finish can look very different when comparing different brands. Some are a nice brown and others can have a coppery look to them that gives them more of a 1980's look, which doesn't look as good....See MoreOil Rubbed Bronze vs Black fixtures
Comments (5)I agree that it is more a question of "style" rather than one clashing with gray flooring. FWIW I have oil rubbed bronze and when I was looking I found that the actual finish varied somewhat with some basically looking very dark brown/almost black and some looking more "antique" looking with some coppery highlights peeking through. Phyrich has a variety of finishes and you can take a look at what the faucets look like in various finishes on their site. They differentiate between Antique Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze and they have an Matte Black Finish I got my bathroom fixtures from them with an Oil Rubbed Finish. Since I have copper accents and a traditional bathroom I asked them to do a finish that had slightly more copper peeking through. They are a smaller company located in Los Angeles and were easy to deal with. Phyrich Faucets...See MoreJAN MOYER
