Window Treatment Idea - Workable or Weird?
Comments (21)I'm so excited - I think this is going to work out!! When I found the fabric I asked to have it cut right away and as the lady was doing it I said that I usually have to take a bunch of swatches home..... Her comment was life is too short to make yourself crazy over fabric. I should stencil that on my walls! Or tattoo it on my forehead. Here's the chair I found on CL for $20. (BTW - could have bought 4 - kind of kicking myself but don't know what I'd do with them anyway) I want to paint it - hate to do more black but either that or white. Keith thinks I'm ruining a good chair by painting it - of course! So - black or white? If you remember, the sofabed on the other side of the room is white. And here is the fabric I bought - will use it for the cafe curtain, too. Will do an edge banding in plain black (bought that fabric, too!) for the woven valance and french door shades to pull the 2 parts of the room together. Still thinking Palace white for the walls but that could change....See MoreKnocking out a wall-weird kitchen layout?
Comments (9)I'm guessing the living room is on the back side of the range wall, due to the location of the dining room. What kind of fireplace do you have? Is it raised? Gas or wood? Does the hearth stick out into the room quite a bit? If you can work around the fireplace, it could look great in the room, but you need it to not interfere with your traffic patterns. Since you have seating on the peninsula, what if you take the sink area and move it closer to the range wall...as an island without seating on the other side. This should give you room for walkways and maybe even a window seat next to the fireplace. Then, keep the sofa or replace it with a small table and chairs. Just an idea :) From Cottage house plans...See MoreIdeas needed for weird fireplace wall
Comments (16)Update: Once we moved in, we had several people in to look at this fireplace on structural issues. We knew when we bought the house that the floor in that hall area sloped a bit towards the fireplace. Turns out it wasn't just that bit of floor, it was also the DR and the adjoining end of the kitchen (the backside of the closet). It had also torn the drywall panel on the DR side of the wall as it sunk - not a seam, but the sheet itself. The underlying problem was insufficient footing of the FP when the house was built. Hmm. In the end there was no reasonable way to fix the issue, so we bit the bullet and had it removed. I miss my little brick walled DR, but I seem to be the only one. The lovely plastic wrap was in place for several weeks. We also had the floor raised, which is a definite improvement. (The stuff in the DR is a vanity waiting to go in the hall bath. When we took up the bath floor - guess what! - it was mostly rotten from a leak several years ago, so the bath progress is a little slower than anticipated.) We've chosen a new FP to go on the wall at the right side of this photo. It will be more or less like this with a black frame, but insides TBD: P.S. Remember that wallpaper in the DR and entry hall from the original photos? Turns out that that paper was a second layer over the original paper. The second layer was vinyl, strippable paper that came off in the usual fashion. The paper underneath was another story altogether. Evidently, the builders applied it directly to raw drywall. It was never coming off. We finally had to have the drywall guys in to mud over those walls and re-texture. The master bedroom and bathroom were the same story. This is the master bath which hasn't been redone yet. We think the original paper was a foil....See MoreWeird shaped living room - Furniture Layout ideas needed!
Comments (2)Do a floor plan and make the smaller angled end of the room the dining area. As is now the table and chairs are wasting a lot of precious space. You can leave the t v where it is. With an app, have the screen become art work, or a simulated fireplace…. Put a sofa on the solid wall with floor lamps, sleek coffee table, with a colorful rug under, and two small swivel chairs to complete the vignette. Swivel chairs are valuable to your space, as they can turn toward both the sofa and the t v....See MoreJudyG Designs
