Comments (7)Chiflipper is right. Repairs first, then cosmetics. Easy and inexpensive to fix the railing(s). As for the stairs, I would go in this direction for cosmetic changes or really gray treads and white risers....See MoreCurb appeal for brick colonial. Portico and color option suggestions.
Comments (4)A portico can be done, but your clearances are tricky and flashing will be important to make sure it doesn't leak. Here is the portico I added to your home. A lime wash on your home would be better than paint. You can control how much to apply for a more opaque appearance....See MoreCurb Appeal Question - Awning/Front Porch/Portico ideas needed
Comments (5)Thanks so much, this is hugely helpful. That glass awning shared is amazing. I will see about talking to a local awning company about it to start. The current awning is actually burgundy, not that it makes it much better :). Definitely agree on the landscaping too and have considered starting with yanking that bush out the blocks the front door, even if we wait on the rest until spring. I never thought about the downspout color being different, and now it stands out like crazy. We’ll definitely have that painted to match the brick. Would you leave the other paint as is? On the door, I also like the idea of having the sides be the same color. What color would you paint it? I wouldn’t mind replacing the door but the side lights are matching to the glass - does that matter? There is also a storm door if that makes a difference. The windows are definitely dated but haven’t been the highest on my priority list to change out - as you can imagine, several things inside look like 1995 too. Thanks so much!...See MoreNeed curb appeal and help creating a front porch
Comments (12)The proposed addition would make your house very similar to houses around me from the 70s. Some homeowners have brought the entrances forward, or embraced the tunnel and added a gate (or done nothing). If it were me, I would go for a courtyard or atrium where the tunnel to your door is and add a killer gate on the front of the house. Some visualizations (I’m not saying these are necessarily good-looking homes, fyi). I’ve had this photo forever and I love what they did with the cedar around the windows. I’d paint your house white with the windows on the right side of your house trimmed in cedar and other cedar accents. I’d suggest getting an architect, but this is a great place to figure out what you like and what might be possible....See Moredi daly
