Please help me choose a countertop to go with this backsplash
Comments (20)If budget was a consideration for the Eco Cosentino Iron Ore, it will probably be a factor with a real blue granite. Besides, if you want your bs to stand out, I'd let it be the one strong blue element in the room. I'd like the Blue Volga or Blue Pearl because the blues in those are subtle and won't shout for attention. If you have the blue granite picked first, I'd want a calm bs. If you try to have too many stars in the room, then it gets noisy. We have Corian in their Rain Cloud pattern and it has a marble like vibe but it also has some small amount of taupe-ish beige. You would have to see if its soft white works with your cab's paint color. Here is a mellow pic of our counters. There is more color to them IRL but from the distance, they do look like a soft white. I am posting pix of this and linking to another one below to give you an idea of the color range to go with your tiles. You could find the equivalent in stone, but we are happy with the Corian. (try to find the seam.. even blown up big it is well done) I could also see a counter with an orange beige tone in it. That would work with the wood look floor and still pair with your cabs and bs. Here is a link that might be useful: Corian Saffron...See MoreNeed help with backsplash for Super White Quartzite countertops please

Comments (14)the countertop is fine. wait until it's installed before finalizing your tile choice. LED lights in the 4000K range will bring in a neutral daylight. anything lower than 3500K has a yellow tone to it. The type of marble you choose will also matter. Carrara, true carrara marble, has a blueish undertone. a very cool tone marble. Calacatta is bit warmer toned. I don't know how much sq footage you need, but choosing cheap marble isn't the answer. cheap marble will discolor and sometime rust. (I don't know where you got you tile from in the picture, but I'd keep looking) I understand money is an issue, so check around for sale lots (sometimes if they only have 30-50 sq ft left of a lot, they mark it down). For instance,,,Tilebar has 22 sheets left of this tile. 1/2 price. it's a great deal. all carrara. good carrara! They're 12"x8". if you have a smaller backsplash, it'd be perfect. $500. https://tilebar.com/kihari-carrara-and-halley-gray-marble-tile.html they also have the flower one. only 62 sheets left. Carrara and white Thassos (and their shipping is only $10) https://tilebar.com/highland-zinnia-thassos-and-gray-mirror-and-marble-tile.html This Calacatta mosaic is also on sale. Calacatta leans a little warmer toned rather than the cool blue of the carrara. https://tilebar.com/aspekt-calacatta-marble-mosaic-tile.html check craigslist. I've found great deals from people who buy too much and can't return it. Are your cabinets also white? if so, you're going to have 3 diff shades of white all next to each other. That's why I said to wait until cabs/counters are installed, your lighting is up to date and then you can bring home samples to see how they look. I can show you plenty of other marble sample tiles...See MoreNeed advice with kitchen counters and backsplash, please
Comments (3)Soapstone is impervious to heat and staining. The soft and medium hardness varieties will indeed scratch or chip easily _but_ the hardest kinds do not. Check out companies like M. Teixeira and ask them about their hardest stones. No one should use a knife directly on stone btw - it ruins the edge, but if you have to live with countertop abusers in your household :) then an appropriate soapstone (or perhaps a honed Virginia Mist granite) is a good option. I did go with soapstone myself in my recent kitchen remodel - Black Venata, which is somewhat soft . .As a consequence my counters are acquiring a patina of light scratches and dings, most of which are visible for a week or two and then slowly fade away. There are always a few fine marks, but they are never the same ones. It’s an evolving surface, which I’ve come to really like as a factor in its own right. It feels like the kitchen has some life to it. - I appreciate that it is not static. And I love that I can set down a roasting pan direct from the oven without a worry,. As for spilled wine or tomatoes ?Phttf. No problem....See Morearlosmom
