How many counter surfaces too many?
Comments (6)Momali, that is drop dead gorgeous. It reminds me more of cloudswift's in that it's a tealish blue; mine is blue-gray with cobalt veins. Here's the TMI: 1. For synonyms or closely related granites, try looking at azul do mar (cloudswift's) and azul imperial. I'll also attach a link to my granite yard website (equally hard to navigate); go to "quartzite" to find an azul macaubas with strong green, gray, and blue lines. On the same website, check out Caribbean blue, which is very close to cloudswift's and, possibly, yours. You are definitely in the land of exotics, where sometimes yards just slap their own names on stuff.... 2. ...and your slab will be priced accordingly. In Cal., we buy the slabs from a yard and separately hire a fabricator. I paid $40/sqft for mine. By comparison, the least expensive granites might be $10-15/sqft; the least expensive blue I ever found was $25/sqft, and the "you have to ask?" lapis and sodalite stones were $200/sqft. Prices varied wildly by both the yard and within the yard -- the "ugly" azul macaubas was $25/sqft and the "pretty" one, at the same yard, which came from the same quarry, was $115/sqft. It really pays to shop around. Fabrication might be $30-50/sqft more. YMMV. 3. Mine seems nearly indestructible so far -- no staining or etching from olive oil, lemon juice, tomatoes, bread dough. Geologically it's a quartzite. 4. I just posted pix yesterday of my 99% completed kitchen -- if it's not still on the 1st page, search for my name and "lotsa pix." 5. Colors for yours: because it has such a strong wavy pattern, maybe you do want to stay within the no-movement, just-speckles family. Black (absolut black granite is pretty inexpensive, I think; virginia mist and jet mist are soapstone-imitations), beige (yech! not my favorite! but it'll definitely recede), or if you're up for daring and different, copper (high maintenance) or zinc (not sure). HTH. Here is a link that might be useful: Marble Unlimited - exotic granites...See MoreHow do trees know what shape to become?(really bored)
Comments (5)tlbean2004, I totally know what you mean, I make some strange posts out of boredom, or wanting a totally new point of view. I agree with the genetics answer, but, I have seen more American hollies with 3-4 trunks than single trunks, but the shape is the same, anyhow. I will mention though, that sometimes trees do seem to take on a different growth pattern, or at least seem to in youth. I have 2 Quercus Robur (English oak) trees I started from seed (acorn) from the same tree. One is short and has wildly growing branches and a "general dissarray" of growth. The other acorn brought forth a tree that is more upright, and nearly 3X the height of the "general dissarray" seedling. This taller tree is very balanced and near perfectly formed oak, shaped tree. In the distant future, maybe they will look more the same, but now there is a real noticable difference. On a funnier comparison, I don't watch the Kardashians, but anyone could notice, nobody but Kim has that kinda tushie. It was a random genetic thing, it coulda came from her great grama, who knows. I don't see any other girls in the family sportin that much junk in the trunk. poaky1...See MoreWhat size/shape of rug for this challenging room?
Comments (9)Will the doors remain open into the room most of the time? Or will you open and close doors to enter each time you go in and out of the room? Will the doors go over the rug? Just considering options. I might go with a wool wall to wall carpeting in a flat loop and have it cut to the shape of your room and professionally bound which is not expensive. Keeping the rug 12 inches from the walls all the way around. Larger floor play area if your kids are little and will maximize the size of the room. If the doors are to remain open into the room all the time I might just do away with the doors as the room is smaller. You could get the doors and just not have them hung until you move in and see how the room lives. That way your cased opening is not marred by door stops and hinges and if you prefer to have the doors open out you can decide later....See MoreWhat sized rug needed for and evenly sized L-shaped sectional?
Comments (5)Thank you for your comments. I notice in the pictures, the rugs hangover a little bit on the side. So if my sectional is almost 10 feet long, I guess I am going to need a larger rug then? Like at least 12 feet on both sides?? It's the size that has me stumped I guess! I would like for the whole sectional to fit on a rug, but with the floor outlets that we have, that won't be possible unless we cut holes in the rug or find another solution. We did order this swivel chair in the navy fabric, but the plan is to put it in our reading nook which is off to the right of the living area. I am not opposed to putting it in the living space if it will work. We will see. Not a necessary purchase right now, but I want so get a couple of ottomans that I can store under the sofa table to give extra seating when necessary. I want new occasional tables as I feel like our current ones are too traditional. Someone suggested a round coffee table, but I can't find a lift up coffee table that is round that I like. I work at the couch a lot so lift up is necessary. So here are come ideas I have. Coffee Table and Sofa Table- Liberty Furniture Heatherbrook I did find some circular small side tables I liked, but I don't know what if any of these "work." Thank you for your guidance. I don't know how to put things together and I don't want people walking in my home and go "what was she thinking?"...See Moreiheartsix
