Not my pants in my closet (long)
Comments (107)AF-"First, I'm so sorry that you were betrayed - what a terrible thing for any individual to endure. It will take some work to recover from that, no?" Thanks for your concern. I must be numb or just so freaking glad for the chaos to be over, but so far I am really happy. Bliss is the word I keep using. He's been almost a month now and my home is clean, organized, full of loving kindness, meals shared with people who got run off, and most of all, a happy kid. Second, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and be very unpopular no doubt, but it needs to be said. With this deep of a betrayal, the pants were a very small symptom of a much bigger problem. I'm going to say that there was much that was wrong here, and it was the bigger piece that was wrong that led you to question the pants." Absolutely. I had strange things going on for a long time. I was just trying to present it objectively. Again, I don't think that could ever happen. I do find it important to note pants don't just walk into a closet. No rationale was ever offered that I agreed with. I had decided levis were thte brand for me, since nothing else ever really fit right; I knew they weren't mine. However, of the weird things, it was the first thing I could hold in my hands, that was couldn't be explained away. I do think undergarments would've been taken more seriously. I don't disagree someone changing in your house is completely unreasonable for most, but a weird bra is harder to explain away. "I'd bet that in the next relationship you're in, if this is not resolved, you'll be in hyper drive when it comes to unexplained phenomenon around the house. That said, it is important to understand that there are things that happen that have nothing to do with a spouse's unfaithfulness." It was explained. He was a slime. I'm a big truster and I've been in plenty of relationships since I'm in my forties. I don't think I'll be hypersensitive, although I could see where others might take heed that it could happen to them. Amy, I think what you said helped the most. I wanted for ME to be able to forgive so that I could find closure. I know how anger can eat a person alive and that the responsibility lay on my shoulders, since he was never going to be "worthy" of the forgiveness. Is anyone ever? But him owning up to it could've helped that. Nonetheless, it is his inadequacy that I will not take personally. I have forgiven. Hey?! Maybe that's why I am so good and blissful now....See MoreMaking a wooden bracket to hold a closet pole--questions
Comments (3)Ok I'm sold on the hilti's, thanks! It's a good thing you mentioned the pullups, because until I read that line, I was thinking, forget it, maybe they can take a static load, but we have a bouncy monkey in the equation, and there's no way it can take that. But after reading your full description I'm ready to give it a try. Also, I forgot when we added a linen closet (long story), ds's closet got sheetrocked, so it's not plaster any more. And no, the linen closet did not steal width, only depth, of which he has plenty to spare. And the sheetrock did not go over plaster (otherwise I'd be taking it out to gain width back.) So anyway, I was picturing plaster and lath in my mind, because that's 99% what I've got in this house, but really it will be sheetrock. Thank you again, SO MUCH, for the suggestion. I was not looking forward to the mess of cutting into the wall extensively. (and if any of my old house forum friends are reading, the plaster-to-sheetrock thing happened back in the day when I was a newbie--I know better now :-)....See MoreAnyone make a pull out broom closet without using pantry slides?
Comments (4)You do not need full-sized pantry slides - you just need ones long enough to keep the thing coming out straight. You might be able to use a couple of full-extension light-weight drawer slides at the sides of the top and bottom, and then casters to carry the weight. The toekick would have to come out with the pantry if you do this....See MoreMaking curtain rod for sliding patio door - conduit, closet rod
Comments (19)Think about hotel rooms. They so often have a room-width black-out curtain ... and behind it a thin sheer ... and usually some type of non-moveable header (either cloth or wood) ... and they pull open so nicely. While staying in a hotel a year or so ago, I decided that's exactly what I want, so I took a good look at the hardware involved. Hotels have ceiling mounted tracks. Something like this: This ceiling-mounted curtain track can be supported every 2-3 feet, eliminating any possibility of sagging rods as years go by. You can cut them to fit your dimensions, and they're even available in around-the-corner styles. The negatives, of course, are that you'll need floor-to-ceiling curtains, and you'll probably have to do some sewing adjustments to the curtains yourself. Still, I'm going to do this in my bedroom, where I expect to open/close the drapes frequently. I wouldn't do it in, say, the dining room, where I'm going to use plantation shutters and curtains that'll essentially never move....See Moretartanmeup
