Lamps on Dressers- show me yours please
Comments (22)Deborahnj, I got so busy with surviving and getting deadlines done and training my new employee that I had to put the visit off. I missed JCPenney's 15% off sale by using their card yesterday since I was so busy. Also so many doctor visits since I am still in pain. I am going to try to go within this week to get that white rod I love with the Pineapple Finials and to see what they have before I buy the ones I love from JCPenney. I am now thinking of crinkle semi-sheer on the windows and lace on the door. I wish I could change my Duet Architella Honeycomb blinds to white instead of the Linen I chose. The white looked gray when I had gray paper blinds above them but now the white samples are beautiful and go so nice with my furniture. It would have left me with more options on white or ivory for the sheers, semi-sheers, lace or curtains. I don't like the Linen color next to the ivory as much as I do the white. I tried so hard and I now learned that colors around a sample affect the sample. I guess I should have waited for my new furniture since I waited so long since it reflects off the white sample making it look nicer. But I do love my bedroom otherwise and I love the crystal lamps and I can't wait to add curtains. Thank you Deborahnj for asking....See MoreFoyer Table Help
Comments (24)Non-negotiable generally means that, either they go here, or they go nowhere. Sadly, my remuddled 1920's house just doesn't have very many walls where things can be hung of this size. We don't even have a single bedroom where there is more than 30" of continuous wall space where you won't run into a wall, a door, or a (don't even ask) sliding hollow core "barn door". Then, add in the complication that someone decided to build a gigantic closet between two rooms so that the windows die into the corner formed by the closet. The second floor is really a wreck thanks to remuddling that we cannot afford to remedy at this point. We were able to smooth out some of the first floor wrinkles, but we couldn't perform miracles in terms of reworking the space. It's funny, all these case goods seemed so *tiny* in our house with 15' ceilings, but in this little 1920s cottage they seem immense. The lamps go even less with my living room than with the foyer in my mind, so I'm genuinely surprised at the suggestions to put them in the family room! As you can see the foyer table/former buffet is 68" and it is the *only* wall in the entire downstairs where it had any hope of fitting. This is what I mean about tiny wall spaces. Theoretically, it would fit on one wall in the dining room, but then we couldn't have a rug in there. The layout of this house has been a complication, for sure! And the foyer is small...a 4x6 rug is the only size that will fit in there because of where the stair landing falls. I'm going to mock up some of these suggestions and see where that gets me. Ideally, I'd love to have an open console table in the foyer, but then I'd have nowhere to put that (expensive) buffet and I think my husband would kill me......See Moreplug in wall sconces;buffet lamps in bedroom?
Comments (4)I have had plug-in sconces beside the bed -- but they took the place of lights on the nightstands. I liked them, got them at Pottery Barn. The plug-in sconces that look best, IMHO, are those that have a metal channel/extension that takes the electrical cord down the wall some distance from the light fixture itself. That keeps the look of the sconce from being too compromised by the kinky cord angling to the outlet. We have a vintage retro lamp on DH's chest of drawers. It helps light up a corner of the room that is otherwise dark (unless the closet is open and that light is on). I like the look. I think your buffet lights could do the same thing....See MoreBuffet lamp help
Comments (1)Hi, depending on the style really, I always love lamps and ambient lighting for a more elegant look, more casual, you may use one fantastic lamp and a plant, some candle sticks, just play with it, have fun, would love to see the space. Best, Debra...See MoreBrown Dog
