SEAL around shower fixtures in a steam shower?!

I'm having a steam shower installed in my home. the plumber did not listen to my instructions to use 100% silicone caulking around shower fixtures and instead used a water based acrylic adhesive (major no no in a steam shower, yes, i know). To correct it, he said he cut the acrylic caulk around the shower fixtures out and applied silicone. He didn't removed the fixtures so didn't get to remove the water based acrylic caulking behind fixtures. Will the silicone around the exterior of each fixture (shower head, valve, and hand shower cradle) be enough? Will steam sneak through and ruin my steam shower? Do I need to have him remove the fixtures and remove ALL of the acrylic caulking to replace with silicone? Am I good to go? thanks!
