what to do? ceiling fans, vaulted ceilings and window questions.
Comments (10)we are pretty set (99%) are getting the fans. however, getting them wired if we weren't to get them is a great idea! jennybc: the 2 rooms are going to be guest/computer style rooms. we have no kids and don't plan on having any. if we do, it will be just one. the upstairs calls for 8 foot ceilings with a vaulted ceiling in every bedroom. we are doing an angled tray in the master and still unsure about the other 2 bedrooms...either vault or leave at 8'. edit: also, we were thinking....in the great room with those 3 or 4 windows, what if you do those windows as a casement style? would that work? we're trying to get the same look of the fixed window in the rear of the house. i don't know much about casement windows and how much more they would be compared to double-hungs. the window is about 3x6/7 and then another square window above it (not sure how big that one is right now, maybe 3x2). i'm not sure if the casements are even made in that size. Comments (1)Because it's so asymmetrical and close to the door, I would just make the whole wall curtains. Something like this:...See MoreHelp! Off centered windows not centered in room that needs chandelier.
Comments (20)We completely redid an existing house and had to work w existing front upper window exterior that was in a weird spot. the lower ones couldnt be shifted more centered in room than what we did. you can see the ceiling drop in the pic and I am planning to move it a few inches to the left but not centered bt windows- to allow the table (96" normal length) and I planned to put a buffet (72" long under windows and slightly longer on right side to visualize space better. Opinion on that? Length of space from the left to right (to built in) is 15 1/2ft. but as you can see, if table enlarges, it will just overflow which is fine into open space. what do you think of the chandelier choices- would like to go w 9 light, but think 5 light is better sized for space...opinion on that? The picture is taken from the direction where there is a large island in kitchen area....See MoreOff Center Window AND Sloped Ceiling
Comments (37)Not sure how much you want to spend on the project but here is something to consider. Have a carpenter gut the bookshelves and build in a dresser on each side. It might feel like you are removing some of the character of the room, but you still have the unusual ceiling and the adorable window seat. Make the fronts for the drawers decorative with moldings and interesting pulls. With two dressers you would achieve more clothing storage, and if you had the top a bit lower than the molding there would be room for deco items. Then you could put your bed on the centered window with drapes on either side the width of the bed. You would also have room for two nightstands and access to each side. Nightstands with shelves would accommodate your books. I would also get a lower headboard. If you get a different bed the existing light fixture might work. I also like the idea of painting your ceiling the same color as the walls. If you think that might be too dark, paint it half strength. Alternatively, I would do what Lynartist suggested. Lamps, mirror, etc can come after furniture placement is decided. Good luck, it's a lovely room!...See Morecoachekwe
