How to create outdoor living with our floorplan
Comments (6)Only problem with that is I wouldn't be happy with the distance between the kitchen and the DR, and how I'd have to get there. If you used Nana doors to sometimes open it, you'd need a wall with doors to close off the new DR and then you'd have to truck plates and food either around through the foyer or through multiple sets of doors. You could extend the wall on the side of the fridge across the new space to incorporate a hallway to the new DR, but then the outdoor space would be smaller, maybe 10x10. I'd also get rid of the step to the parlor....trip hazard....See MoreUsing indoor/outdoor rug inside
Comments (12)We used overlapping indoor/outdoor rugs to "carpet" our basement. I'm glad we did, as we've had 3 water events since doing it. A couple of the fibers have broken (kid-related?), but they're easy to clean. Ours are made of recycled bottles, and they're reversible. One note: Indoor/outdoor rugs don't absorb moisture. Part of the point is to allow moisture to pass through, so you don't have mold or mildew problems under the rug. If you spill something, the rug won't absorb the liquid and you will have the clean the floor underneath. Comments (22)FWIW it is worth to those looking at the options like Localeater. Did some research today. A 10x14 pergola starts at about 4k (pine) and goes up based on material and features. We like Walpole (have bought from them before) and they make a nice one in Azek (looks like wood but wears better ... we used it for new steps at our beachhouse) for 10k. The retractable sun shades for the top are another 2k. 8 weeks delivery, alas. Then of course we need the mosquito curtains, another 1k or so. We would also need to dig up our stone patio to put in a foundation, then the put the patio back and drill through it. Meh. An awning with Sunbrella is about $3200 for a 9x16 (that size would nestle in nicely near our koi pond area). 6 weeks plus. More expensive if it is retractable, but that kind cannot accommodate mosquito nets. The awning vendor had a product that was like a screen that came down at a push of a button, hidden up under the awning. That was another $10k though. Alternatively, you can use mosquito curtains. Not crazy about any of these options so far ... we might start simple with mosquito curtains for our french doors off the MBR in Maine and see how the y work. I like that we can get them in white......See MoreBest recommended outdoor appliances in a tight space?
Comments (3)@Keepthefaith MIGirl we have the counter deeper so it's not right next to the house but there's about 9" between the house and the grill which was the recommended area from wolf but I did also think about that too (although now I am wondering if smoke will enter the house when the door is opened, hmm) @K R unfortunately no cover. The way our backyard and house is designed, we could not come up with a design that would incorporate both and still look aesthetically pleasing. I thought the warming drawer would be nice to keep food warm if guests were arriving late, etc but good point tooo...See MoreAG Millworks
