How many lily bulbs per pot?
Comments (8)If it isn't too much to remember to do, I'd be interested if you could come back in the fall and tell us how this project turned out. Here are some questions I'd like to hear about: We still don't know what these are, but I'm guessing Oriental Lilies? Did you buy dwarf, lowgrowers? How many bulbs were you able to stuff into one basket? How tall did the stalks grow, as compared to expectations for bulbs planted in the ground? How long did the blooms last, and how many per stalk? When the blooms faded, did you leave them in the basket, or plant out in the ground? Did you move the basket elsewhere for the stalk to mature for next years flowers? When you repot them for the next season, I'm wondering if the bulbs will have grown in size, as they do in good fertile ground where there's room to pull themselves down and get 'comfortable' or have they shrunk? Also, was there room for the bulbs to multiply/divide -- did you find smaller bulbs had grown in there as well? And did you water, if there's no rainfall where they're hanging? Do your friends who don't water, also grow in baskets? Any other comments on how they turned out would be of interest, too. Nell...See Morehow many Clemson okra plants to plant per person?
Comments (13)The reason most people do not like okra is they think of it being slimy, In stews this does not happen. For those who do not like it being slimy they can cook it on medium to medium low until it stops foaming. I raised a large crop when I had the room and never had a problem of it going to waste. My wife took a 10 gallon pot to a Church dinner. They asked what it was and when she told them they said they did not like okra, but we brought an empty pot home. Cooking is an art that takes love and adventure for the soul. I also love Cactus pads in stew with onions and tomatoes. They also have to be cooked slowly until they stop foaming. All foods can be enjoyed if prepared by someone who knows how to fix that dish....See Morehow many plants per pot (not jug)
Comments (3)A 10" pot should be quite full with 4-6 of the plants you mentioned. I like to pack my purely annual pots; the habit of the plant is as important as the height. If you've got plants that will trail over the edge, you can get more in there. And it depends on the shape of the pot as well; you can get more into a 10" square than a 10" round. I'll take greylady one further - if the packet says space 12" apart, for a pot, figure more like 3" apart. PV...See MoreHow many pips per pot?
Comments (7)Some hostas just look drop dead gorgeous when they unfurl and some need a bit of time to come to color. I would guess that for those hosta that look their best at the time of your sale, you may get away with just two pips rather than the three per pot. We have a store that sells hosta each year. Last year they had a good variety of hosta. Most of the hosta were small sized, but they did have some more mature hostas that year. I did not think that the large hostas sold as easily. I think that people feel that they can buy small and the hosta will mature in no time at all. But we hostaholics know better and sometimes it pays to get a hosta in a larger size. Perhaps you have taken pictures of your hostas in the past years? If you have some good pictures, you may want to display them or have them handy as an example to show a potential customer. These were just some of my thoughts....See MoreSW (Sydney, USDA 10b)
