So frustrated with all the losses.
Comments (16)my persimmon still looks so sad. it's breaking my heart. i know it will probably eventually leaf out, but i hope it didn't really set it back. i love that tree and its fruit. most of my other freeze damaged stuff is releafing already, at least to some degree. the sweet cherry still looks very sad, though, as does the one fig. speaking of critter damage, the deer are getting bold and last night ate the tops off a bunch of my strawberry plants. guess we're going to have to get serious about doing something now that they're getting bold and doing damage in the front yard. i don't want them tasting everything and deciding it's a smorgasbord. then i'll really have a tough time breaking the habit. you're right though, shari- just concentrating on what does look nice helps offset the problems. i guess it's always something....See MoreI am so frustrated I need to vent
Comments (18)We're in Atlanta, GA and we've been in a 100-year DROUGHT. So, everyone envy us now. All our lawns and dogwood trees are dying because of the outdoor watering restrictions. Oh, and all-time record breaking temperatures went with that, just ended. 28 days of daytime highs above 90 (the average high for that period is 88 here). We were high and dry. But the rain has started now. Normal pattern. And we're getting close to breaking ground--wouldn't you know! So our expectations are for a slower build than we would've had when we were high and dry. Interesting factoid: due to the increased shipping demand by all retailers in the fall season leading up to Christmas, it's always slower getting building supplies from Sept. through Dec. Again, something for us to remember since we'll be starting in the fall. Many factors affect all our builds and then there's the factors unique to each of our builds. Perhaps its an opportunity to work on our patience skills, since we basically have no choice but to wait. We have so much to do ourselves that I don't know why we waste any energy fretting--which we do. We need to: Start making needed repairs on our existing house to get it ready to sell. Clean out our existing attic, garage, shed, closets. Decide where in the new house the remaining stuff is going to go and make a note of that so the move-in doesn't kill us. Start packing the stuff we never use and insist on moving anyway. Finish selecting, and re-selecting (for cost-reduction) some things like plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, electrical gadgetry, etc. All requiring lots of research/shopping. Finish up placing our existing furniture on the floorplan; decide what to discard. Try to find an antiques dealer to sell the china cabinet and grandmother's china. Start shopping sales on closet fixtures, window treatments, occasional chairs, fabrics and stuffing to make new throw pillows. Why are we (DH and I) fretting when we should be working???!!! And are we the only freaks who still have all this to put our energy into? I know that for me it's easier to focus on how slow those OTHER people are going than on all the things I need to be doing....See MoreShaklee Soft Fabric Concentrate - New & 'improved'
Comments (20)@ livebetter, you made me smile =D I felt so much better when I read your experience, especially "Every time he was close I could smell it and it wasn't a pleasant smell." That made me laugh, because I kept doing the same thing, except perhaps more melodramatically :) I have grown up on Shaklee, and have had the highest respect for their products and supplements, but I am also distrusting their assertion that everyone is "accepting it." **FACT-- we are not loving it, neither did my distributor, and the telephone customer service lady TOLD me the product was discussed at their "conference" and they are "working" on the scent/product further. In addition, my letter received what SEEMED to be a sarcastic/condescending reply, QUOTE "While we're sorry to hear that you do not like the new natural fragrance in Soft Fabric Concentrate, it seems rather _ironic_ that you would choose the old synthetic fragrance over the natural one." Hmm. Tell that to my nose. My nose isn't very smart, I guess. This may be a single-person response, and not a company-endorsed one, but still, a response like that leads me to suspect that they are becoming annoyed- by backlash?? I'm with you. I don't know what else to use. I just ordered two bottles of the old stuff (still available until stockout, they say), but I am hoping they don't substitute the new. In perspective, this isn't an earth-shattering situation of course, but it IS so nice to know that we're not just batty for reacting this way, lol! May your day be filled with "good scents" !...See MoreSo Frustrated---Don't know where to go next!
Comments (28)No offense to AZ Wildcats, but Jock is way beyond starting small at this point! He is well into this process and has probably hit the limit. Jock, I think I was where you are now, back in 2005 when I tried to hire a designer or color consultant to work with. I knew an awful lot about what I liked, but I felt I needed the extra edge from a professional to get me the last few yards to the goal. As for finding someone to work with who has compatible style...you need to find someone who does not insert any of their own style into your process. That should be one of your first questions when interviewing people. Make sure you are not getting a look or a package or (heaven forbid) a formula. You need someone to help you find your home's own best design potential....a facilitator. I'm not sure where you live, but I would start with the IACC-NA....See MoreOlychick
