I have purchased some awsome IKEA products. My favorite is a long bench I put on wheels and my kids use this everyday with toy bins underneath. It is laminated and very easy to clean and sturdy. If you near an IKEA spend a day and feel the products as every product is on display. I have seen some not so quality items but for the price.... Are you and IKEA family member? They give monthly discounts and offers via e-mail and you can log on to the website for the current offers at each store. Most of the systems are 2 person jobs though so make sure you recruit help. Thanks. I guess there's not much more than I can do but the obvious? There's definitely room for more shelving to be put up. Saw a set of sliding / bypass doors on a closet like this on line and may think about doing that, would probably give me a little more playing room and possibly allow me to open it up a little more. Honestly, with all the measurements I took of this house, that's one I forgot, the linen closet. It's your typical one door closet opening, it's just very deep. I think a U shape with ventilate shelving would be better, and stuff would be easier to reach. THANKS!

You could actually do a couple different things. You could have one rod and use hangers. You would have to fold them a bit to fit on the hanger and not drag on the floor, but that's usually how they come from the cleaners. For heavy cloths, use two hangers together for added strength. You could also hang multiple rods at slightly different heights and depths. If you have a walk in closet this works great, but will still work with a reach in. Hang the highest rod the farthest back, then one a bit lower and closer and even a third lower and closer than the second. Then you can hang the cloths right on the rod instead of on a hanger. I like the rod because of it's larger diameter it doesn't leave creases in the cloths. You can also overlap them on these rods. For optimum use of space, you'd need to use multiple rods and overlap. Is that totally confusing?!

Very similar narrow & deep shelves in my 1942 bathroom. I recently wrote a post about fixing up my bathroom & you can see some pics there. Link below. I didn't go into detail about the shelf re-build in the blog entry, but you can see what it looks like. Because of the depth, you can see in the pics I have baskets on the shelves. In the baskets I have stored: Top: extra stored bathroom items (extra Q-tips, sunblock, razors, etc...the extras to use when I run out), the Dr. Bag, few bathroom odds & ends I need every once on a while. Middle: My everyday go-to hair supplies: blow dryer, flat iron, brushes, hair products, etc. Bottom: Daughter's bathroom supplies: hair stuff, her toothbrushes, getting ready in the morning essentials...she's 4...she wants beauty stuff like Mommy on her own shelf. Here's my secret: The baskets are fairly large, but they only go halfway to the back because shelf is deep. Behind the baskets are the uglies: extra towels rolled up, makeup, heating pad, etc. You can't see the uglies unless you pull out the baskets. And the best part...because the baskets are big, I have plenty of room to store everyday items. The shelves are always clean & look that way all the time. If I need an emergency company cleanup & have something on the sink I need to hide ASAP, I just throw in one of the baskets. Not sure if that's helpful to you, but that's how I do the deep shelves.
