help pls: entry door w adj closet - swing out? dummy sidelite
Comments (18)Thanks Lyfia! All three ideas could work well. The closet wall currently would be between the two transom windows, so it wouldn't block either. Still, I especially like your idea of putting in a nice PAX closet, at least initially. A 59" (or 49") PAX closet, with a bench or plant in front of the left sidelite. I think that could work very well (if DH will be willing to be unconventional. I'm from Europe, so I'm quite used to wardrobes and no closets). I've been wanting to do a closet organizer anyway, so PAX could accomplish that. And, as you'd said, it means we could see what the space really feels like after we move in. This makes me wonder whether the entry door should be 2'8" rather than 3'0" wide. A smaller door might make the space feel larger ... and would leave more of the closet accessible. I'd assumed that 3' was more practical for bringing in fridges, couches, etc. But if 2'8" is a standard, then there must be other ways movers cope with massive furniture. Thanks! Very interesting ideas for me to sleep on. :-) (Yawn)....See MoreHelp! Need entry door recommendation.

Comments (13)I have double glass doors and at some point their stained glass was replaced with clear glass. We have double doors to outside that are heavy oak, but even so, when I'm coming down the stairs in my jammies and someone knocks on the door they have a full view...no time to hide! I absolutely HATE that! (you have to go through two sets of doors to get into the house if that makes sense? Victorian thing). After having lived with this for three years, I would push you towards the most distortion possible...Autumn is nice, and you can't see clearly what's on the other side. This is not a bad thing :) We will be putting back in stained glass in a very distorted pattern. You can work a peep hole into a frame if you want one, but that's not such a concern for me...I just want the ability to not answer the fedex man in my sleeping gear!...See MoreNeed help with entry door design dilemma
Comments (8)Thanks Patricia. FYI This is not a new build and nothing is ideal...Garage faces the street and the front door originally faced the backyard! We're moving front door to side and put in a walkway from drive parking area to entry door. We will also have an arbor/fence between driveway and entry door to further define. The difference with 1 and 3 are the grills. I do like the full glass options and the more modern look of 1 (have seen this grill mix successfully done on other homes) but wonder if its right for this house. The inside of the house is more modern than traditional - vaulted ceilings, beams, minimal moldings, some shiplap. My last house was over 100 years old so it was a no brainer for style. This one is alittle trickier....See MoreDeborah Zemrose Todaro
