We are using 12x24 porcelain tile for our new shower with CBU and a roll-on waterproofing membrane. Two of the three installers we consulted for our shower remodel won't install grab bars. One with thirty years experience said he wouldn't guarantee the waterproofing if he drilled into the tile. He uses the Wedi system though. The estimator for a tile store who subcontracts out the labor said that they don't install grab bars.
Shouldn't the installation of grab bars be expected by a tile installer? What is their objection to installing them? Glass shower door installers drill into the tile.
The blocking has been installed. If we choose an installer who won't install the bars, is this something we could do ourselves?
