Tin-look wallpaper in bathroom
Comments (3)Thanks, PTAmom. You're absolutely right--leave it alone. I got up early and went to Lowe's. The sales associate was kind enough to open a roll of the paper and cut off a sizable piece for my experiment although she looked at me like I had 3 heads when I told her what I was doing. Anyway, long story short...I came home, stuck the paper over the tile and immediately hated it. I think I got caught up in a quick fix on the cheap and that's what it was looking like. I will say this, though, I think it could look ok if the tile were removed and I had a more substantial product than paper. Oh well, nothing ventured-nothing gained....See MoreDIY Wallpaper in Bathroom
Comments (11)I have a 100+ year old house with no fans/vents in the bathrooms and I love wallpaper. There is just nothing like wallpaper to enliven a space and give it personality. There was already wallpaper in all the bathrooms and the powder room and kitchen when I moved. Over the years, I've wanted to bring my own taste to the rooms with new wallpaper. About 5 years ago I hired my wallpaper hanger to put some adorable Schumacher wallpaper into my teenage daughter's small bathroom. Note: Teenagers + showers + no fan = LOTS OF STEAM! The wallpaper hanger encountered the problems others have noted with removing the old wallpaper--it hadn't been prepped and the face of the wallboard kept peeling off, leaving rough spots. She did her best, but the walls weren't really flat. She put the paper up anyway and it looked fabulous. Then, after 3-4 years of 1-2 showers per day in that room and the wallpaper started to peel off in a few areas. I called the wallpaper hanger and she came over and spent 30 minutes sticking the edges down again. It looks great again!! The bottom line: 1) DO properly prep and prime the walls; 2) unless you are a raging perfectionist, put up wallpaper in your bathroom if you love wallpaper. Just maybe expect to do a bit of re-gluing now and then = really not a big deal. It's a bit of work, but so is touching up painted walls....See MoreNeed waterproof wallpaper system for bathroom instead of using tiles
Comments (5)The large printers used for vehicle wraps and signage can produce any image you wish on your choice of finish gloss or semi or matte with a tough overcoat on a polymer water proof base. Several formats are already used for walls, but it sounds very damp. I know the car wraps handle rain is why I mention the idea....See MoreWallpaper in the Bathroom
Comments (68)I love wallpaper and have it in most of the rooms in my house. Some of it has been there for decades and is still in excellent condition. Having said this, I have told my children that when they haul me out of here, dead or alive, to remove all the wallpaper before putting the house up for sale. People are terrified of removing wallpaper - think it will destroy the walls (if drywall and not properly primed, it might!), or will cost a fortune to remove. So I told them to only leave the wallpaper in two bathrooms - both are done in a Farrow & Ball strie paper and they make the two baths. As to wallpaper and using it in a bath or kitchen. One is no longer limited to "kitchen/bath vinyl wallpaper. I chose a gorgeous french documentary paper for my kitchen when we were moving here in 1984. I was worried about using it as a backsplash in my kitchen (which is what one did in those days), and a rep in the Brunschwig & Fils showroom in LA, told me to just send it to ResistFlame in Cincinnati. They would coat it with vinyl and I'd be good to go. I did this and have done it many times since. One has a choice of matte finish (my choice) or glossy, and it can be single/double/triple coated depending on the wear/tear one expects it to have to endure. I've always done single coating and that has been fine. It is totally wipeable/scrubable with a Dobie pad. The company is so easy to work with - I usually just have the paper drop-shipped directly to them. They coat the paper and then ship it to me. It's really quite reasonably priced....See MoreSteph Doyle
