Exterior BORING, need help to improve curb appeal!
Comments (9)Love the house. Will the new roof be gray? Lots of color options with gray roofs. Is the brick shown all of it? If so, I'd probably remove it since it's not adding much interest. I don't have color recs for the gray siding. You just have to get sample cans to test some out. Personally, I wouldn't go too dark. A soft, dove gray would be pretty with white trim. Tons of options for door color, including red. Your shutters are actually too small for the double windows. Each shutter should be half the window's width. Up to you but a wide trim around the windows would be another choice. One thing you might think about is a garage door with windows across the top that mimic the panes in your other windows. Would be really nice....See MoreBoring brick ranch needs a curb appeal boost
Comments (21)Yes. I've saved all the suggestion pictures. My husband and I are going to sit down and try to draw out what we are thinking for the landscaping (location, colors, etc). I'd like to lay it out so that it's ready for the addition of the walkway. We aren't going to be able to replace the front door at the moment. Is paint a terrible idea for a short-term upgrade? If paint is an option, what are your thoughts on paint color for the door? And the shutters....I'm not 100% sold on removing them (we are in south Ga so the shutters keep the southern feel). If we keep shutters, do you have a suggestion on color? I want the front of the house to really pop....See MoreCurb Appeal + Backyard for family living and entertaining
Comments (11)I'd add some hardscaping to the front like this fencing that creates a courtyard in the front. This one reminds me of your house. Also note the use of mounding plants in the bottom left. You could do something like this without replacing the wood chips. Another use of fencing to create a courtyard in the front Here's a raised bed, keeping the concrete but adding some interest I'd definitely consider taking out some of the concrete in the back, it will get hot. But a pergola would create some shade so that will help. I think you can work with the concrete in the front by breaking it up with some plantings and hardscapes. Whoever lived here before you definitely didn't like yard work!...See MoreBackyard curb appeal
Comments (5)You don't mention budget. Window boxes, shutters, etc. don't really deal with space or use of the space. Here's a poured cement patio with red brick trim, gravel beds for planting at the edges. A free standing pergola, in wood from the lower back door and extending out over a small patio would define your space. Red brick pavers could also make for a nice patio by echoing your brick house. Build a pergola over a new patio or buy a freestanding anchored over your new patio. If you go You can find free standing pergolas in many sizes online and some of the big box stores: Something free standing like this in red cedar stain would create a nice backyard space: Can you replace your fencing to create a private garden? Could you devote your budget to created a deck at the level of your back door, which would be more much likely to be used than a patio below? You have a charming house, but it would look more pulled together if your siding were in a more harmonizing taupe color that echoed the grout. Brown downspout would improve things, too....See Moreemmarene9
