My cabin needs help!!

We have a 900 sq ft cabin that was built in the 50s. It has been added on to 2 times by previous owners and the last addition is a 14.6 x 14.6 ft room that is the entrance to the LR and Kit. It was used as a utility room but now needs to be used for an entryway, storage, coats and boots and sleeping for an occasional guest. There is also an antique round table that must stay. The washer and dryer will be relocated in a closet.

The windows and ceiling will stay but floor and walls will be replaced. I'm including sad pictures of how it looks now and am hoping for some suggestions. We will be doing a lot of the work ourselves. Please help with this little money pit in NE WI!!

Maybe you could do a built-in banquette to pull the table up to under the right side window (under the air conditioner/heater) and along the wall - or in the corner where the laundry is now. That way, cushions could be stored in the seats of the banquet along with a folding board to convert the banquet benches into a bed for visitors. It is an idea straight out of the motor home realm, but is a good way to hide a bed in a daytime room. If you have a leaf for the table, making it oblong, it can seat quite a few with the banquets and chairs combined.

Otherwise, there are a lot of murphy bed ideas out there. The LeeValley.com site sells the hardware and plans for DIY murphy beds. One becomes a desk in the daytime. Other sites will have ones that are held sideways and that are not so tall. Some also have desks.

Ha! I actually did originally refer him to an Architect. Result: Beautiful home nearly 3x over budget and a year of lost time. I will run the final design though our rater/design team but think he's done a good job overall considering the variables. Iam tempted to raise the pitch but the drawing doesnt show the 12" raised heel which should help the squat appearance. I agree Athens and will pass along the suggestion. I know they are committed to using stone for the fireplace and column bases so tying them together seems like a good idea but think youre right about it throwing things off-balance.

This is a better version of the inspiration color palette which is too vivid IMO. I do like how they distributed the color. One color, green, is used at the roof line and not repeated again. The second color on the trim, blue, is repeated and used around the windows. You could easily do the same on your cabin. I wouldn't add anything. Vertical on an exterior suggests modern or contemporary and doesn't fit with a cabin vibe. Paint the body, plywood, and vertical trim all the same color. It's small and you don't have that much room to get cute. Plus, if you over design with bold color on an exterior its impact and effectiveness is diluted. Less is more.

9 and 15 foot wall. first figure a 24 in range??? [seems fine] and an under cab hood with VENTING to the exterior..where would simplest spot be for that? I would cenrtainly want a hood . then apt sized fridge for sure,,,,17 c foot is more than adequate.... with a 9 and 15 foot wall you have a few ways to do it......get the range and hood spot first. instead of running the whole 15 foot length maybe turn even a bit for mini peninsula with a couple of stools . not sure of overall needs in space
