backsplash suggestion

Hi, I recently bought a town house with a back/brown/tan granite, maple cabinets and stainless steel appliances. We chose to paint the walls a light sage/gray green. Having serious trouble with choosing tile for backsplash. I would prefer to use subway tile but am open to anything that would look great. My boyfriend prefers contrasting colors and doesn't like "earth tones", which I feel would go best. Any help is appreciated!

Nice kitchen. You don’t need a backsplash. The wall color looks great with your cabinets.

You already have a backsplash, 4" of granite.

That is such a narrow space, I would just paint it. Anything else is just going to look odd, and unnecessary.

They both look fine but it is so hard to tell from a single sample in a photo. Do you have your lights on? Your lighting will impact the undertones in the tile and counter as well. I would also look at handmade style tiles. They have subtle color variation and texture as well. If you find one with the right colors, they can help visually tie the cabinets and counter. Pretty remodel. With the black accents and X design on island, it appears more rustic/ farmhouse to me. I cant fully tell, but it looks like the gray are glass tiles(?) if so, I would maybe think if using ceramic instead. Glass doesnt seem to go well in my opinion with the style you have so far. Glass fels more transitional// tradirional / modern style homes. But that is just my thought. I am not a pro. Maybe look at these ceramic grey. first is cloe bedrosian in gray. second is tilebar - seaport hibiscus gray . Its looking nice; I am sure it will turn out great

" leaf " shape: simple herringbone /no grout contrast: get samples / final option can boil down to how much sheen/ actual dimension of the tile. there's a few things that will work. Door style is very plain / I would get a little something going on

The rendering looks like you have yellow and black cabinets, your counters are cement and your floors are pink-beige tile! You really don't want backsplash suggestions with that rendering as a starting point! You can move in and start using your kitchen without a backsplash. For best results, you should wait until all the other elements are installed and then start bringing in tile samples and sample boards to look at in the finished kitchen.

If you remove the 4in granite back piece, you can install subway tile in black or the lightest cream color found in the granite. I’m sorry he doesn’t like earthtones, because that is what you have on all your surfaces right now. Keep the backsplash simple since the granite has lots of color and pattern.

I would leave as is and spend the money on something else, door/drawer pulls perhaps.

Glad you have a sense of humor. Lol. My husband barely gets a vote.

It’s a nice kitchen. You could easily get into project creep - paint cabinets, change granite, fancy backsplash, new floors. Fun but not necessary.
