Comments (20)Jolie is a very good actress, but it doesn't strike me as good casting either. I think Hillary Swank is a genius idea, but still too young. So is Streep and Close if they were younger, in their mid 40's. Kay Scarpetta isn't in her 30's because she rose through the ranks and that takes a lot of time. To me, Jolie is not only too young, but she is too attractive and too obviously sexual. I think Scarpetta is also an attractive woman, but in more of an "average" attractive way, rather than extremely attractive in the exotic way and without the ooze of hard sexuality. Kind of like the difference in looks of Jolie and Anniston - both are attractive women but in totally different ways. The lure of Scarpetta (to me) was in her brain power, not in glaring good looks. Attractive looking with *brain brilliance* in the sciences -that would make her different in a way that made her attractive and interesting to men who are also in the sciences, but not over the top looks. It will be interesting to see if Jolie can pull this off. It's funny, the pictures we draw in our heads and how we can all see Scarpetta in a different way, isn't it :)...See MoreJD Robb fans, I just went a little nuts.
Comments (21)I know, Susanjf, but I can't imagine a Robb book having the same budget as a Willis movie.... maybe special effects aren't as expensive as I think, though..... So, OK, let's order up a few movies, they would be fun! :) The hologram room would be fun, too. Cruise as Reacher is just stupid. And when asked, Cruise said he was a little sensitive about the criticism. Um. REACHER wouldn't be! So right there, it tells you it's poorly cast! Hopefully, "One Shot" bombs and they recast for a 2nd movie. I won't go see it, I don't want my mental image of Reacher tainted. Plus, I don't like Tom Cruise....See MoreWho else reads Nora Roberts?
Comments (6)I do and of course J.D. Robb her alter ego. From the library I currently have books by Ngaio Marsh (mystery), Miriam Toews, Star Jones (yes, the Star Jones and sure to be cr#p but oh well), Mary Burton (a thriller), Jill Mansell, Lindsay Faye, David Balducci and Deborah Raney. I left Dick Francis on the shelf and will hopefully get it soon. I don't tend to pre-read the beginnings of books as I see others do at the library so I will often start a book at home and wind up not finishing it because it's poorly written or the story isn't to my liking. I do read a real mix of genres and authors....See MoreFavorite Romantic Book?
Comments (45)I tried the Outlander series because the time travel aspect intrigued me, but the brutality and continual peril put me off that series. I think I only made it through the first two. Same here. I didn't even make it through the first book. It seemed like she just totally forgot about her husband in her real time. I felt like I was reading two different books/authors. Rob, have you read any Nick Hornby? Juliet Naked was great. I totally loved Juliet Naked. Especially good if you are of a "certain age". The only romances that I've read in the last few years are Rules of Civility, and One Day. I believe I may have cried while reading both....See MoreBluebell66
