We chose Wolf in part because we liked the look of the 30" microwave over the 30" oven. Wolf also has a 30" drawer so you could do oven up and microwave down if you prefer. Here's how it turned out.

FWIW, all microwave drawers are manufactured by Sharp - the only thing you are getting is a different branded name plate.

True. The only thing the extra cost buys you is the matching aesthetic. Just depends on how much you value that.

I don’t know who makes the brands you are interested in as reguoar microwaves are made by more than one manufacturer.

However, you should consider the ergonomic functionality of the layout you are thinking about. if you place the wall oven an the best height, the microwave will be pretty high and you will be unloading and loading at an awkward angle.

Why are you putting a microwave above the oven? Do you not have space in your kitchen that is more functional? i literally had no other place for a microwave which is why I went for a drawer. My wall oven is at the perfect height as is the microwave below since it has a tilt up control panel so no bending to input.

In our case the microwave location improved ergonomics and function over the appliance arrangement prior to the update.

As you can see from the photo above, the bottom of the microwave is a few inches above the counter height. Perhaps a bit higher than optimal but lower than the previous hood / microwave combo. The door opens down which means you have to reach across but it has not proven to be a problem other than it is a little less convenient to clean especially the back of the cavity.

Our previous arrangement was 36" cooktop with microwave / vent combo over, and a double oven stack. We replaced the cooktop with a gas range, then the oven stack was replaced with the single wall oven and microwave. This gave us a larger gas oven in the range, the microwave went to the old location of the upper oven with the new oven below. The combined height of the microwave + oven is less than the old dual oven which allowed for a larger storage drawer beneath. Plus a proper vent hood instead of the previous recirculating "vent" (ugh).

I would definitely think that a microwave above a double oven stack would be too high. But we've been satisfied with it over the single wall oven and we use the microwave daily.

Certainly a configuration in terms of wall oven and microwave can be whatever works for a particular end user's needs and height.

However, at least for me, the reason for getting a wall oven was functional - I wanted an oven that I didn't have to bend to access - and the side opening configuration was a bonus since it meant I could access from the front instead of the side.

Once the oven was situated at optimum height - a microwave would have been either too high or too low for safety and ease of access so a drawer below the wall oven was the solution that worked best for me.

In a larger kitchen I would never have a built in microwave anyway as I would have stashed it in a cubby with a shelf under it as a landing spot but in my very small kitchen, my only options were over the range or a drawer.

Having owned both Wolf and Miele, I'd go with Wolf. The oven bakes more evenly. My

Wolf cooktop had no problems in the 13 years I owned it, while the Miele has needed several service calls in the first two years. I'd also reconsider the Miele refrigeration. I have the fridge/freezer columns and the freezer is not working, at about 2.5 years old. While they are beautiful appliances, they need to be more reliable than that.
