Discussed this at length with my husband last night. Here's where I'm at: * Many of our furniture, bedding and window treatments have been purchased or custom-made to coordinate with this wall color (since it's what we had in our previous home) * Our previous home actually had a similar orange-undertoned carpet, it just wasn't problematic because there was less natural light, less square footage, and it was always covered by furniture * Must husband insists it's not that bad in person (I haven't been over to the house yet since the carpet laying began...but then again my husband is an engineer, not an artist) * It will cost at least $6000 to recarpet * We have a 1-year-old and plan on having more kids I think the verdict, for now, is to live with the carpet and plan on recarpeting (similar pattern, but a cool gray color) in 5-10 years, depending on our budget and how worn the carpet looks. I guess the plus side to not loving my carpet is I won't be heartsick if the kids track in or spill paint on it!

Thanks so much for all of the ideas and input! The opening between the dining room/kitchen area from the living room we really love. This is a small house and it really opens up the area. Not to mention that there is no natural light in our dining room kitchen area so this allows the little bit we get from the front window into that area as well. It's not used as a pass through, as we have a long sideboard on the other side that we can use for serving dishes and such. Here is a picture of that side of the opening: (this was taken during a cookie decorating party we had at our house over the holidays) Moving the sofa to the other wall is an interesting idea. For some reason I never thought of it over there. I guess becuase it honestly isn't the longer wall of the 2. The room is more narrow than you might think. These pictures might give you a better idea of the space in the room. These were taken in our final walk through of the house before we got the keys. So, as you can tell we've changed a lot of the finishes. The view when you walk in the front door: (disregard the red cabinets and the floor and wall colors, all have been changed) Continuing around the room: So as you can see the far wall isn't that big. I'll have to measure but I don't even think there would be room for side tables beside the sofa if we put it on that far wall. Also, my husband and I are contemplating these chairs from craigslist: We can get them this evening for $50 for both of them, and I think that they might work in the color scheme of the front room. If not we could always slip cover them. We have no TV in this room to deal with. The tv is in our back den. Dilly_dally - you are right that there is a built in bookcase on one end of our Den, not the front living room. Not sure what everybody is worried about as far as the Elux ovens???? Is it the fact that the glass broke on one, Wolf has had a least one oven glass door shatter, and at least 4 cases of the blue cobalt interior flaking (Just talking about posts here in GW). Should we all be afraid to buy Wolf ovens now??? I don't think so! Unfortunately such things happen albeit fairly rarely. Just go to the AJMadison site and do a search there for Electrolux ovens, most the ratings will be 4 to 5 stars. As mentioned before, Electrolux did have some oven self cleaning problems around 2009-2010, but they took care of the problem. I have not found a single oven manufacturer that has not had oven self cleaning problems, the Electrolux usually just tripped a thermal switch, and no parts were needed for the repair, Yea I know still a Pita, but better than some of it's competitors (KA) where a thermal fuse had to be replaced, or numerous other manufactures that actually "Fried Control Boards"!(Including KA). So No Worries, Odds are you will be happy with your purchase, and if noise is a concern, go to a showroom and hopefully you can listen to one that is hooked up. As I mentioned mine is extremely quiet, gotta get right next to where it vents to hear it, seems like my post got "Ignored"? If ya need proof, I will video tape it and put it on Utube, but since mine is 5 + years old now, That would not be as relavent as listening to the current model. Gary
