Comments (6)We have a family farm in trinity county Texas which is about 2hrs N. of Houston. I wanted the same thing done as you but not screen from roads. My mom and dad are in their 70's and wanted to see the trees planted get big. So I chose Pinus taeda. Commonly known as loblolly pine. Not the best screen when mature. Very fast growers. Planted a dozen of them about 6 years ago and they are already 20-30 ft high. Best part about them is that they are easy to plant and easy to come by. I picked up 1,000 seedlings from a local grower, planted what I wanted and gave the rest away. Have about 600 on the farm that I planted. Great tree for fast growth and semi native. The dozen that are 20-30 are in the front yard and get water and fertilized with the grass. The rest of them are about 1/2 the size. Loblolly is the most common pine tree grown for commercial use in Texas. They are every where....See Morenew kitchen floor: what style of tile would go well with hardwoods?
Comments (7)Now that you have lived in the house for two years, you will have figured out if the kitchen foot print is usable. As soon as you start renovating this kitchen, you will be tempted to change things. Little things. Things that have bothered you for 2 years but could do nothing about. Once you do that, you have a new foot print. And then saving the boxes will be irrelevant or impossible (depending on how much of a change you make). Because change is inevitable, you will want to plan this out CAREFULLY. You will need to figure out your floor plan FIRST. Then you can look into whether or not it makes sense to keep old boxes vs. starting new for a full upgrade. If a bigger change is going to happen, you should get a certified Kitchen Designer on board. S/he will save you plenty of money with her/his designs and abilities. The KD will put together a package for you, including colour palette, flooring and counter top materials. Which you will direct the KD to order for you OR you can source yourself and then have installed. At which point, the flooring is decided WELL before the kitchen is touched. As you can see, you have a few more steps to go before you worry about flooring colour. To decide now, before you have a full idea of colour/materials would be putting the cart before the horse. Floors go in last (and can be chosen last). It is an important thing to work with. As tempted as you are to get rid of the red vinyl, you will be very upset to pay for a floor TWICE (which is often the case if flooring is changed before the kitchen is renovated). Because you have vinyl that is EVEN with the hardwood (same floor height) I would look at very thin product. It will prevent a large 'lip' from occurring through the doorways. But that's a decision that can come LATER. Right now you want to figure out the kitchen's footprint....See MoreWhat color/style of floor tiles would go well with this vanity?
Comments (6)The bathroom's fully gutted. No walls, flooring or other material yet. That's what we're trying to decide now. I was thinking of going with simple white walls because the space is so small. We've only purchased this vanity and sink (a slightly longer version than the picture), a matching linen tower (the grey wood color) and bathroom hardware in chrome. We've also purchased a simple mirror with LED lighting all around....See MoreWhat kind of sideboard would go well with this TV stand?
Comments (11)I like Jan’s idea, a lot. It‘s very clever! And that white one that she selected is a great piece for that. It’s a very nice option! But I’d just like to say that you do not have to go traditional to get a taller sideboard. Look around - and you will also find modern ones that are taller. You can do searches for ‘tall modern sideboards’, ‘modern tall sideboards’, etc. Plus, a bar cabinet can also double as a sideboard... depending on the style of the bar cabinet; so you can keep that in mind, too - if you really want taller. And if you are going to use the piece as a bar cabinet and coffee station, I do understand why you would want taller. As another idea, this ”Retro” sideboard/cabinet is over 43 inches in height. Comes in a variety of colors. I think with your tv stand, the white is great; but any of the colors could potentially work, depending on how you set it up. https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Retro-Storage-Cabinet-Fluted-Glass-Buffet-Sideboard-with-Shelves-and-Doors-Metal-Accent-Console-Table-Entertainment-Center/35753893/product.html?opre=1&option=68879039 If you don’t want all your stuff showing through the glass, you could strategically place window film in some spots. This one below is over 38 inches tall - so not as high, but a bit higher than some of the current standard buffets. And just to mention, Etsy.com is a great resource for many things, including art. You can often find some nice pieces, and at times custom options, at great prices. something like this could also be outfitted with some mirrors. This one below is nice, too - but I don’t think it’s as high. Btw, you could put two of these together also, for a longer ’counter’; but the style on the one that Jan shows is better than this one for that trick. Her’s would give you a more interesting look, I think - if you wanted to do two of them together like that. There are so many options. And, again don’t rule out bar cabinets. :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
