Hellebores!
Comments (9)I only have two of them and they grow under a high deck (more balcony size but high enough to be able to plant under). They get no mulch, not much water except for rain passing through the floor boards above. Supplemental water only if no rain forecast. No winter cover either. Some snow cover but predominantly they are exposed all winter. The soil is not clay but loose and free draining. So far I've had no issues. They bloom very well and I trim ALL last year's leaves off every spring even though they are pristine. I saw a YouTube video once that showed a horticulturalist trim off all old foliage, claiming better growth and tidier plant, but more importantly, it allowed the flowers to be showcased. I've followed that practice since and the new foliage is always abundant as are flower buds. 'Ivory Prince' is gorgeous but my dark purple/black double flowered one has decreased in size by half. My error! While spring cleaning I inadvertently tore up half of it, root and all. The remainder is doing fine. The photo doesn't show all new growth but there are three more shoots that camera did not capture. Flower facing brick wall, lol. These pics were taken earlier in the week. Right now we are blanketed with snow and cold! Yuck! I have not trimmed off foliage yet....See MoreHelp!! Banana plant has brown blotches on leaves
Comments (4)I think the sand needs to go, my banana is in MG potting soil with alot of perlite for the roots to breath. I'm confused, if the pot doesnt have a drainage holes thats not good, I dont understand what you mean about the basket, I dont know your location but I would plan on re-potting your nana when the weather warms up, ditch the sand IMHO and use pots with good drainage....See MoreYour Hellebores Blooming Yet?
Comments (136)Gah, how have I missed this thread! Thanks to all who have shared your lovely plants. Hellebores are certainly photogenic in addition to all of their other positive qualities. posierosie, Your bicolor hellebore looks a lot like one I have that was labeled as Pink Frost when I bought it, but I'm not convinced that's it. I'll try and add a picture tomorrow. I have most of my hellebores together in a little colony here but I plan to break them apart into other areas of the garden this year. Amethyst Gem and Peppermint Ruffles Here's a pic from earlier this spring. The pink one in the back is Maestro and it comes into bloom before the snowdrops....See MoreHellebores, Just hellebores
Comments (62)You have a beautiful and wonderfully diverse collection of hellebores, MYAL! I enjoy your videos very much! THank you for sharing them. When do you divide your hellebores? Do you divide them before they grow and bloom in the winter or do you divide them after they bloom?...See Morecarol23_gw
