Comments (5)LOL! I'd just love to meet some of the people who write these jokes. It's too bad that jokes never seem to get credited with the author. Thanks for lightening things up. I have a published letter in the newspaper about Health Insurance today but let's not go there, here!...See MoreOnce Curly Hair Now Straight
Comments (35)I always had hair straight as a stick, fine & thin! Last year I began to get very stressed about things & my hair fell out in big chunks! My scalp also had something like psoriasis & dermatitis in it as well. I went to a knowledgeable dermatologist. She said that it was all from stress but I had also created a problem with my scalp that was very hard to heal. She gave me both a medication to destroy the scalp problem as well as minoxidil (men's strength) to bring my hair back. Even though I am 68 yrs. old I have very few gray hairs, but have red hair. Anyway as I began to use both medications as well as "calm down" my hair began growing back, curly & much thicker than before. I had tried minoxidil several times with just a little success. I was floored with how well it worked & how quickly the medication had healed my scalp problem as well! Many in my family have curly hair, but mine was always totally straight. Just wondered what might have caused my hair to become so curly! It looks just like my brother's now! I am NOT unhappy to have my hair coming back so fast, even if it is very curly!...See MoreDoctor Appointments - how to regulate?
Comments (23)Oh I agree with you. I actually wouldn't care either if SM saw my child's medical records either because honestly I couldn't stop her or control her if I tried. She is married to BD and if he has them, she has them. I tend to do all of the things in our situation so this wouldn't come up at all. part of keeping my 'control' of being the 'mother' is to make sure I am available to take dd to the doctor or dentist etc. If I start delegating out my 'jobs' I might feel that SM is taking over my 'territory' but a lot of mom's don't or can't take on the responsibility of dr visits and SM ends up doing it and then BM is screaming, these are my kids!! Which I believe if I am doing my job, then SM doesn't have to do it and therefore I do not feel territorial or that she is stepping into my place... If your BM is ok with you doing those things then that's great and no one here should be concerned about it. What might be of concern is if you were overstepping and taking over while BM just wasn't faster than you (which I have dealt with) and there was a power struggle of 'who's job' it is... Then there might be concern.....See MoreCompletely OT (but I knew you guys would answer, and I need help
Comments (5)I'm actually a dermatologist in my other life. First statement: you can't make a diagnosis or treat patients over the internet. He needs to see a doctor, today preferably. I don't think a GW Kitchen forum, no matter how great, is the place to get advice! Best thing which is so often neglected would have been a swab culture from the area at the initial visit, before treatment was initiated, for both bacteria, and also herpes simplex, if they really suspected "cold sores," though that's quite rare in that location. Many do what you doc did, which is to treat empirically with Bactrim, a drug that covers probably 98% of all staph including MRSA. Failure to respond certainly could indicate that this was not staph, or the incredibly rare case of Bactrim resistant staph. Equally likely, as we see this all the time, is that he's doing fine and that what you interpret as "not better" actually is improved to an expert's eye. Because of your concern, and even more so if other symptoms are present (fever, chills, red streaking, swollen lymph nodes, pus draining, etc etc) a recheck is indicated and I woudl press to get bacterial and HSV cultures if they think it's a consideration. Maybe you can guilt your derm into seeing him if he's worse. PS: staph is almost certainly acquired at school, not in the temp kitchen....See MoreFun2BHere
