That is one Adorable House!

First thing might be to consult the person who's living in it to see if she loves bright red or hates bright red or has any feelings at all about bright red.

One of my neighbors painted her house bright white with blue shutters and a red door.

It's cute, but every time I pass it I think of a flag or a snow cone stand.

Red white and blue is not only kind of a Fourth of July motif, but it's an awful lot of contrast.

You might paint the shutters a darker blue, maybe almost black, paint the main part of the house a softer or more subdued or muted white or bisque, go home, go to bed, get up the next day, and squint your eyes and look at the house. A color for that door may come to mind.

(The color that comes to my mind is gloss black.)

Cute house. I like the idea of red white and blue. You could also do a taupe or medium gray on the siding so the house reads more one unit.

Thanks for your input. That's a good call on the snow cone stand. I definitely don't want that! The shutters are actually a deep navy. They come across a bit brighter in the picture.

I was also thinking about maybe a softer white. I am afraid it's going to be too bright if I match the trim, plus, it would show dirt and grime much more. If anyone is knowledgable in paint color and has an idea of a less intense white (maybe with an underlying grey hue?), I am open to any suggestions. I am terrible at picking out stuff.

As for asking my mother-in-law, I have learned the hard way on that one. If she had her way, the entire house would be wall to wall flowered wallpaper. I am trying to balance her traditional (said another way, very outdated) tastes with what will ultimately sell. We purchased this home for her to live in while she is able to live on her own, but once she moves out, we plan to quickly sell it.

Sorry for the serial posting. Does anyone have experience with SW Alabaster or MB Swiss Coffee? I am wondering if they have just enough contrast and warmth without adding too many colors to the tiny house. I am a bit worried about having too much going on for such a small home.

You have to consider the roof color unless you're changing it, which might be a good idea for the real estate market if it is damaged or old. Also, keep the brick in mind. For the market I would do black shutters and a black door and dark charcoal roof.

Would it be a terrible idea to just paint the door navy then instead of switching everything to black? It is SW Naval, so it is fairly traditional.

Also, thoughts on painting the siding non-bright white (something like Alabaster instead)? I am a bit concerned about bright white.

Charcoal and black good ideas, but if the blue is Navy, I think your best course would be to paint the door to match. Since you've got someone in there who likes the storm door, and since the storm door protects the paint and helps with utility bills, leave it until you get ready to sell.

Unless it is past due for a paint job, I would wait until selling time to change it to a new white. Navy door would be better than red. Hard to pick a red with that brick.
