Loving this time of year! ( Couple of photos.)
Comments (10)Thanks everyone. :O) Lindalana, Those Blue Morphos were winter sown a few years ago and since then have shown up in the gardens here and there but not in great quantities. I also have regular pansies which reseed and since it's difficult to tell which one is which, I never take any pansy out and get surprises here and there. They are quite pretty. Should I get seeds before the birds do, I'll keep you in mind....See MoreI love this time of year!
Comments (8)Lisa - I'm not far from you, though near MA/CT/NY line. Our blueberries didn't do much this year (though lots of new growth), I think b/c they bloomed in April when we had that hot spell, then we got frost. We planted tomato (beefsteak and Mr. Stripey) seedlings, pepper (red, green, orange) seedlings, zucchini, corn, cucumber from seeds at Mem. Day. Something tore up cukes so had to plant again but we've gotten a dozen (slicing) this week and the zukes are ramping up too, can't keep up with 1 plant so I'm letting the couple on now go for bread. Tons of tomatoes but none ripening, 1 green pepper and 2 "red" that I picked green b/c they were so big, 1 of them is turning orange on the counter but other still green. The "orange" pepper plant isn't doing much. The corn is just starting to form ears and silk - hope it doesn't ripen while we're on vacation. This was a banner year for blackberries though. My dad mowed down a lot last year and I was mad but the remaining plants have produced so much that I'm getting really picky (pun) about which ones I take, only the biggest and juiciest. So many are seedy or shriveled b/c of lack of rain, but I've already made 28 half-pints and 2 pints of jam (plus leftovers from each batch filling an empty PB jar in fridge), and still have 5 quarts in the fridge and a quart in the freezer. I plan on 1 more batch of jam using the 2 quarts I picked Sunday and freezing the 3 quarts I picked yesterday, and any I get for the rest of the summer. That way when (if!) we run out of jam I'll be able to make more....See MoreOur Farm is Lovely This Time of Year (Pic Heavy)
Comments (27)How lucky you are to live in such a lush green paradise. I wish I could experience it in person with a cup of tea or even a coke. A town near here Tyler Tx has set a new rcord with over 60 days of temps above 100 since June 1st. Our town is not far behind. The drouth is bringing lots of wildlife out of their usual habitats in search of water and food. I have damage from racoons, armadillos, deer, o'possums and grasshoppers. I feed nine crows daily as well as smaller birds. Brown trees are standing out among the still green ones....See MoreI love this time of year!
Comments (14)Thanks everyone for your nice comments! I am not sure how much sun Sunpower gets. I will check tomorrow since I will be home all day. I know that Atlantis, June, On Stage and Great Expectations all get a lot of direct sun from sun-up until around 1pm. Sunpower may not get as much since the deck may block some of it. It surprised me how well GE is doing but maybe it's because it gets some direct sun. This is #4 for me and it seems like I finally found the perfect spot for it. I thought I never would because I don't live in the perfect climate for it. I think I will take Sunpower out of the barrel and move the barrel out of the garden and plant either it or maybe my Dawn's Early Light in that spot. I think a yellow one would look great there! Geez, I just checked my records to see when I bought Sunpower...2014...maybe it's a dud lol. Jo- I planted Ivory Queen in 2016...I can't wait for this one mature. It is planted in a newer garden with a lot of others that are going to get big too. I may have to expand some of the beds so I have room for them all lol. I have a nice long holiday weekend so I have some time to try and get stuff done in the yard. One thing I really like about the Hostas being planted close together is they keep the weeds from growing! That's always a plus in my book! Linda : )...See Moresara_ann-z6bok
