Painting Wood Panel Walls
Comments (4)Hello! Not sure if I am replying too late, but I just recently went through this in my "new" rental home that had a wood paneled room. Since we plan to eventually gut the room if we decide to buy the house, I took a short cut. First, I gave the walls a good scrubbing. Then, I sanded (150 grit) all of the paneling and wiped all excess dust away with a damp cloth. Now, this is the part that I skipped: if you plan on keeping the paneling up, you'll probably want to fill the grooves in with some joint compound, using a putty knife. Let it dry and sand out any bumpy spots or ridges. Then you'll be ready to prime and paint. I used BINZ primer on my walls. 2 coats because of the darkness. Let it dry, of course, and then paint on! I didn't have any problems, and it looks a lot better!...See MoreSuggestions for painting wood panels
Comments (4)depends on the panelling - if it's picture-of-wood on masonite, primer will save you a bundle because it will keep the panelling from sucking up five times its weight in paint. if it's actual wood, the heavier the finish on it, the more a primer would serve. if it's finished so heavily that the grain is obscured, scuffing the whole wall with a 3M pad before priming wouldn't be a bad idea. if it's 70's vintage knotty pine...this is a place where I cheat like hell, and 'prime' the knots with automotive spray prime, then prime over the whole thing. can you tell I'm a fan of prime? the 'best' way to paint also depends on the sort of panelling, but in general, a smooth-nap roller and a 2" angled trim brush are your best bets....See MorePainting Wood Paneling - Den/Bathroom
Comments (5)please no cool grays w/this paneling. it's a warm, yellow toned pine. pairing gray with it will make everything look sickly. If you want to paint it out, do what was advised above, first. White Dove tends to be on the dingy side. I'd use Simply White. do the ceiling a bright white, leave the beams, paint out the trim around the skylight in the white. I'd stop there and evaluate again. Maybe leave the wall of windows as is, with the paneling, and do everything else? If you could paint the very inner trim of the windows in black, it would look great agains the wood. If you want to do the paneling, then go ahead,,,but I wouldn't use white dove here's the white paneling and the light gray on the walls...See MoreAdvice on painting timber wood paneling in hallway
Comments (2)The prep work will be considerable if this is a DIY or quite expensive if you hire out. Should take considerably more time than the painting honestly....See MoreEla
