Nice house! I think that golden oak and brass fixtures will soon make a comeback, because dark wood and silver/stainless have been popular for so long. I don't think the peachy wall color in your house looks good with the oak, though, because it makes the oak look so yellow. Before you paint the trim and window blinds, try painting the walls. Our walls are a pale khaki/green, so light it reads as a neutral, and it looks great with warm wood tones. I've also seen nice warm grays look good with golden wood. On the other hand, as much as I love wood, I think the bookshelves look odd in that spot, mostly because they appear to be floating above the baseboard heater. I think that would be the best wall for the TV, so you may have to change the shelves to make that work, or move/remove some of them. Can the dining room be closed off completely, with a big arched doorway? With such open space in the other rooms, it might be nice to have a more intimate space for contrast, and to have less sound bouncing around when you talk and laugh at the dinner table. Can the ceiling in that room be lowered? If not, I do like the grill idea suggested above for the openings to the DR. Lastly, before you shop for furniture I would make many copies of a to-scale floor plan and try moving little paper pieces of furniture around to make sure you can make it work before you buy it.

If it were my house, I would not do red or orange-red; I don't think I would like that with the wood doors behind the table. Personally, I like the green that's there now. If you are looking to freshen the room, you could add curtains or valances to the windows and change out the light fixture over the table.

People can distinguish between a minimum of one million colors. But you have not shown me the gray or yellow you wish to use, so it's impossible for me to be sure of the colors' impact. If you wish to keep the bay as a focal point then paint all of the now green areas with whatever color you choose. Unify the bay with the chair rail by using the same color. As to patterns, this room is already busy with chair rails, windows and trim. If you have a wall that is plain in comparison consider a semi-gloss stencil over an eggshell base. The pattern is visible but muted. HERE is an example.

I've read all the comments and I can understand all the different points of view. I like both light and airy and dark and moody. I like painted paneling and stained paneling. What I don't understand is why someone would buy a home, especially a Tudor, and then want to completely change it. My husband hates Tudors, so when we looked for a home, we stayed away from them. I don't care for ranches, high ranches, split levels, "splanches," or modern (midcentury or otherwise) either. But I respect anyone who does like those types of homes and wouldn't ever buy one and then try to make it into something it's not. I like classic Colonials, Craftsman bungalows, Shingle style or old farmhouses. So we bought a 1920s Colonial Revival as our primary residence and built a Shingle style vacation home. It makes decorating so much easier when you go with the original design style of the home. But I also understand that sometimes you don't have a choice. You need a home and that's the only one available in your preferred area because of good schools, proximity to work or transportation, etc. People seem to move around a lot these days--from reading the design dilemmas on Houzz it seems as if no one stays in a house for more than a few years. So if you don't like the original style of the home, why not go with it until you can move to a home whose style you like better? And then sell it to someone who can appreciate the house's style and pedigree? Just my thoughts.
