How were you growing this plant?

If your climate is entering a warm Spring, try putting the plant in some loose sphagnum moss with a little perlite or small bark. Put the plant in a warm, bright window (no direct sun), say a prayer and hope for the best.

If the main top (leaves) of the plant are still green, you have a chance the plant will make some new roots.

Thank you, Jane, I am residing in Southern California, I re-potted in regular soil in a bad drainage pot. TOp leaves looks good, still green.

Do I need to cut off the bad roots, Or just leave them be?

You could cut anything black and mushy. In the photo it appears you have some live roots (whitish). I would just pot it up and see what happens. This is the time of year the Phal wants to grow. You could try a little rooting hormone, but I think you have a chance of growth without it. Don’t over water, use a clay pot. Keep it slightly damp.

Use a pot not much bigger than the roots. Do not over pot!

This is what I do.

I soak the roots to see if there are any viable ones at all.

I cut back all the dead ones and then soak the plants roots system in a cold black tea bag solution for the day and then take the plant out at night. I do this for at least a week until the leaves start to get rigid. Sometimes I will even see new roots starting to develope.

Once the leaves look much healtheir, I will then plant in in a mix that stays moist enough to hydrate the roots but dry out quick enough to not cause rot. That is something you willlearn to do for your climate and growing conditions.

For me, I have to use Sphagnum in all my mixes accordingly. The amount I use varies but I can ot go without it in any of my mixes in my very warm drier or cooler areas.
