Has everyone battened down the hatches?
Comments (6)Schoolhouse, we lost power last night and just got it back about two hours ago. Other than that, we came through unscathed. Glad you fared so well also. I amused myself as the winds blew by imagining what the new master bath might look like if the leaning tree were to fall on the house. As long as I was dreaming, I also added a walk-in closet! Ha! You are so sweet to check on me. We consider ourselves very lucky, especially when we see what happened in NJ and NY. Thanks so much and here's hoping that old lilac comes back more beautiful than ever next spring!...See MoreBatten down the hatches? Irene?
Comments (44)I'm amazed at the photos and stories of the damage done in other parts of New England. Here in Eastern Massachusetts, we seemed to have had a mild experience in comparison to others. We had wind and a small amount of rain but it was pretty manageable. Two medium branches were on the ground from Maples and that was about it as far as damage. Two streets over there was a power outage that didn't reach us on Sunday during the day, so we had power all day and then lost it about midnight Sunday night for about 4 hours and that was pretty easy to tolerate. But hearing that some people in our state may have to wait until the end of the week for power to be restored, makes me feel we should prepare better next time, because that could have just as easily have been us. I would have been ready to tolerate a couple of days without power, but 5 days plus, seems like more than we would have tolerated easily. I'm glad it wasn't worse than it was. Seemed to be a lot more damage from a tropical storm than I would have expected though. Hope that everyone here is doing well and not having a lot of damage to deal with....See MoreTime to batten down the hatches around here
Comments (29)Ha. Thanks guys. It was kind of pretty as a juxtaposition. Can't complain about the weather guys on this one. They told us when it looked like full blown summer that winter was coming the next day. So, I decided to get some before shots for the after. The cold did do a number on some plants, the fruiting ones that had come out. But, on most of the blooming ones in the pics, they were set back some but will be OK. Blue Bell, the least you could have done is come up and help us close the door, we may have another shot of snow tonight. Crazy. And, uhohgardner, sharp eye. The good news is the only thing we found that had been buried under the snow once it all melted was a newspaper whose headline (would have) warned us "Blizzard on the way". Ha. All children accounted for. ;) They say we got more snow last Friday than we had in the prior three years combined....See MoreBattening down the hatches
Comments (146)As far as my immediate location we are all ok. Luckily we never lost power. Although the local news still wants us to live in fear so they are telling us even if we have power now, we still might lose it. My dog proved to be very strong, she was on pins and needles all day yesterday. Only went out once in the early am. Then she asked again about 9pm, got out there did her business and rushed back in, gave me a look that read "ok, I'm good, let's go to bed". She was so exhausted she fell sound asleep. My dh's office was open and he went this am. Regarding that bang, I never found it, but I have a hunch it was the first part of the crash I heard a little later. I had those decorative fireplace screens in my windows in the study (I used to have them in my old dining room), but the windows must have flexed and pushed it off the ledge, pushing over a standing lamp. Yikes. funkyart, why didn't I know we are neighbors? I'm on the West Shore. Got a txt from dd1 last night, she was ok. No power since 4pm. I haven't heard from her this am yet. My dh saw her pop up on Facebook, so we know she is ok. It is so hard to imagine the flooding in NYC that they are showing on TV. And the shore seems to have been devastated. Stay safe everyone.
