Thanks all for the honest advice. The furniture on the left is small china cabinet with our crystal barware on display. I don't have to keep it here, but I'm not sure there's another great place for it in the house. Behind that there's a doorway to the kitchen + breakfast nook. I'd hate to redo the drapes since we just got them and they were pricey. They are pinch pleated dupoini, so while not heavy, they are not quite as casual as they appear in the photo (although they really need a good press still). We did think about going taller with them, but got talked out of it at the store, since they said that raising the hardware too far above the window would put it in no man's land--just kind of floating disconnected from the window. I hadn't thought about painting the angled portion of the walls all the way to the ceiling. We've kind of been treating it as a giant tray ceiling and considered that angled part the ceiling. Maybe extending the painted part would help bring the ceiling down a bit? I also like the idea of more/larger art on wall for texture. aktillery--I like the light you posted. Do you know who makes it?

82 feet? wow. that's some table. I assume you mean 8' dining table? W 20.5" / D 20.5" / H 37.5" / 26 lb.it's 20x20 by 37" high. can you get a tape measure so you can visualize that? there are 6-40w bulbs. Your best bet is to go into a lighting store where they have this type of beaded chandelier, and see how it looks when lit. And if you're actually asking sales that question, this is the wrong forum

How tall are is the ceiling in the room? If you search blogs some say for an 8' ceiling the height from the table is around 30-34" for an 8' ceiling, for higher ceilings they usually add 3" for every foot. IMO this is a matter of personal preference. I personally would never put a chandelier at that height because it's right on top you when you sitting down and its in your face when you standing and trying to talk or pass something across the table. The ceiling in my dining room 17' high, my light is 5'7 from the table and it's perfect. If you tell me your ceiling height and the table size I will give you a visual how it will look with a few different heights in relation to a person standing next to the table.

Hi Hannah! First of all, thanks for that drawing--helps me visualize the situation. We actually have recommendations for how to hang 2 chandeliers over a long table. The best way to do it is to imagine cutting the table in half and then centering each of the chandeliers over their half of the table.
