COREtec Calypso Oak, Noble Oak or Pembroke Pine photos?
Comments (450)@Abballmom @Michelle G @pamela1154 @Megan Redlich We are choosing between carpet and CoreTec Calypso Oak in a bonus room/playroom. I do love the colors and appreciate all of your photos! A couple of questions: - For those who have it on an upper level: what is the noise like below? This would be on our second story above my husband's office so I worry a bit about this, especially compared to carpet. - Is it easy to clean? Any issues with vacuum (or a roomba) scratching it? - What about scratching in general? We have a large dog...and young kids who love to push all kinds of things around on the floor :) - Are you generally still happy with your choice? Thank you so much!...See MoreOutdated Bedroom/Pine furniture
Comments (20)I don't think that it is the wood that the furniture is made from that gives an outdated look. I think it is the rounded, curvy ornate style that speaks so much of some past decade. In my estimation, decor that is devoid of ornate details is the most timeless. A basic piece can always be dressed with a different finishing, but that shape stays the same. You can reduce the overly ornate feel by removing the mirror over the dresser. You probably cannot remove the headboard, but it would also take away some of that feel. The rest of your room is nice. It is that curvy ornate shape that locks you into the last century, somewhere. It looks like it may have been, at one time ,graced with the colors of the southwest in a bogus 'navajo" pattern, or maybe a little later in the century. Other than a couple of minor changes such as some new lamps or so, I would suggest that you come to terms that it is what it is. Your room is nice and your bed coverings are very pretty. The walls, trim and the floor are all nice. You simply cannot erase the imprint of that past decade from the shape of the furniture. That is where it is the most evident, in the shape of the furniture. But, it is all nice....See MoreToo much pine... planning on painting. Need your advice!
Comments (99)There is no chance of us redoing the floors. They were done only a short time ago and are of good quality. While I may not have chosen them myself, we do like them and they work with the ceiling and will be great for not scratching from sand brought in on bare feet. Cabins in our area come at a premium. The square footage cost is 5 times that of the square footage cost to build our home again and they often go into bidding wars. So you can understand that we have a very limited budget to make it our own after the purchase. That's why we feel so fortunate that the previous owner looked after things so well and took pride in maintaining their vacation property so that we're at least not having to put money into maintenance issues. Most properties we had looked at had a ton of maintenance issues to contend with first. Since the floors and ceiling work well together, that's why we thought painting the walls for a more lake house look and addressing the kitchen cabinet fronts to "demodernize" them were our best options to start for our three season get away. We will definitely put one good sized area rug in the living area, but with everyone coming up from the dock/beach all day long, a ton of rugs won't work well. If I paint, would SW Alabaster work in the living/dining area with the warm wood ceiling, fireplace and northwest daylight? Or do you have other suggestions for a paint color? And do you like the rugs in my links? jjam you said go light. They're light with a touch of navy, but washed out vintage like. I've attached the links again below. What do you think? Thank you to everyone for trying to make this an extra special place for my family... Possible rug? Another possibility? Comments (14)I personally would work with an area rug underneath the pine table so I would choose the colour that I want to look at THE MOST. Area rugs are excellent at 'hiding' a colour clash or 'separating' two items that are so close in colour that they blend into each other. If you are NOT using an area rug then I suggest you pick the colour that has the most YELLOW in it. Pine is yellow. I loves being yellow and people love to put finishes on pine that turn yellow/orange over time (ambering). The 'white wash' samples will turn pinky-salmon over a large area. Yellow clashes badly with salmon/pink. The darker sample could work...but it is in shadow in the pic so it is impossible to say whether or not it has any undertones that work with your table. The third sample...the medium yellow one is the one that will have the least amount of clash. If you do not want an area rug, then this is the one I would pick to work with your table. In fact it could be so close in colour that your table 'disappears' on the floor. If it does, then an area rug will fix it....See MoreMy House
