Replacing 60/40 2-bowl sink with a Single Bowl Sink
Comments (38)The faucet and dispenser holes are filled with scraps from the cut-out. This is a job I did last week; removing a failed polyester bowl from a polyester solid surface top and replacing it with a stainless steel sink. No countertops were removed in the process. It isn't that much different with stone, the trick is making sure the footprint of the replacement is identical to or larger than that of the original. I've had budget-conscious clients that didn't care that the negative reveals were off on their replacement sinks in stone. Sink, faucet, soap dispenser, and disposal replacement, plumbing, top refinish and cleanup (ooo..it's messy) just over 3K. That's a Mirabelle sink made in Vietnam. Nice....See MoreAre there really only THREE low divide, 60/40 double sinks out there?
Comments (21)Thanks so much leela4! I know Romy's kitchen and she's helped me out on a few of my threads too - duh - totally didn't clue in! Her kitchen and the adjoining spaces are stunning. The Kohler Iron Tones sink is perfect in her kitchen. I have to put it at the top of my list for its "pretty" factor. Joseph: thanks!! Kohler doesn't seem to show that model on its site (either that or I just can't find it). I'm definitely considering the Vault as an option. I went to a sink store today and found another Kohler that's similar to the Vault - the Strive: http://www.us.kohler.com/us/Strive-32-x-18-5-16-x-9-5-16-Smart-Divide-under-mount-large-medium-double-bowl-kitchen-sink-with-basin-rack/productDetail/kitchen-sinks/1029992.htm The only difference is it has rounded corners vs the sharp corners on the Vault. So glad I posted this. Thanks to all of you, I've now got five good 60/40, low divide options. Will update when I decide which one I choose!...See MoreKitchen Sink Double Bowl - 50/50 or 60/40, 10" or 9" deep?
Comments (6)Several thoughts: - Regardless of the split, you won't find much support for a double sink on this board. Why? You can always put in a dish pan and make a single sink into a double ... but a double can never be a single. Also, with a single bowl sink, plumbing is on your side: less to install, less pipe /more storage space under the sink, and the garbage disposal is never on the wrong side. - If I were to go with a double sink, I'd choose one with a low-divide. - I'm 4" shorter than you -- I don't know how much difference that'd make in terms of a sink, so rather than advice I'll suggest HOW to decide: Go to Lowes with your ruler and stand at their example-sinks ... determine which ones seem most natural for you, then measure them. Personally, being quite short, I find the apron sinks more comfortable....See MoreWhere do you put a kitchen faucet for a 60/40 kitchen sink?
Comments (3)I'd put the faucet at the divider. The holes at the ends of the sink will be fine. If you have to have an air gap, install it until you pass inspection, then run your dishwasher drain hose over the top of the cabinet and put a disposal button in the air gap hole....See MoreLisa SW
