I use the 40 side to fill with water for washing. We never fill the 60 side, just use for soaking and rinsing. We dry on the counter.

I use the larger side for washing dishes, or cleaning vegetables, etc. The smaller side has the disposal, so you can use it for peelings, rinsing dishes, etc. I use the countertop for drying.

I find the smaller side fine for allowing hand washed items to dry. I really only hand wash pots and pans and I just kind off stack them in there.

I'm the other way around. I use the bigger side for drying my hand washables and use the smaller one with disposal for prep work/clean-up. I rarely ever fill the sink with water and instead soap up all the dishes with a sponge and then rinse them all.

I'm planning on putting the disposal on the big side for rinsing/washing and using the small side for drying.

IMO this is what DWs are for. I have virtually nothing except copper pots that do not go in the DW so never need a spot for hand washed dishes. As for the disposal IMO they should have been illegal for years already.

If it can't go into the dishwasher, I can't keep it. Except the wooden handled knives.

I was curious how people use this type of sink too. (I have 50/50.)

I have 60/40 in the house I bought and I don't like it. I'd much rather have a single sink. Everything goes in the dishwasher (almost)

My husband is responsible for dishes in our house. When he is behind (always), I stack the dirty dishes in the 40 side.

I had a 60/40 in my previous house and miss it. Big side did any washing that fit in DW. Smaller side was for draining those items and always clean for veggie washing.

I run a sink replacement business. Virtually no one wants a double or 60/40; I may do three a year. Mostly all single bowls; half are apron fronts.

My knives get washed as I use them and put back in the knife block

I grew up with a, I guess about a 85/15 sink. The 15 just had the disposal. The other sink was big enough to hold a turkey roaster, but for regular handwashing we had a small dishpan, so we could rinse in the open portion of the sink. We had a DW, too, but some things needed handwashing (crystal, knives, wood). Btw, now I wash the wood utensils in the DW but not any bowls or boards. And I don't find that knife blades suffer in the DW, but the handles do! They all crack at the little metal things that join the handle around the metal, must the the heat and uneven expansion.

To each their own... I have a rather large collection of stoneware and tons of wooden tools and good knives, plus gaskets and water bottles/blenders, oversized bowls and plastic/vinyl placemats for the kids that I wash/dry in the sink. I also use my 8" pan every day (often more than once) and don't want to wait for the DW to get full enough to run to have my pan clean and ready to go. I love my 60/40 - mine is 10" depth on both sides and quite roomy.

Interesting thread here :) This is the original 50/50 sink at our vacation condo that is used just as my 60/40 at home. We put the disposal on the left where all work gets done and use the right side for drying. I like keeping items off the counter in both small kitchens.

Gray after the red if you really want it to scream.

The biggest advantage i feel for 50/50 sink I own and love is that for days when I have a just few dishes I don’t need to run one plus hour dishwashing cycle saving electricity or have dirty dishes sitting in the sink waiting for next day to load up

I like to use MAAS cleaning and polishing cream. It a German product that I purchase on Amazon.
