odor travelling from pull-out trash through peninsula
Comments (27)I never have an issue with garbage smells spreading to the rest of my cabinetry unless (A) I haven't taken the trash out (I typically don't go longer than 24 hrs., 36 max), or (B) I haven't washed the garbage bin itself recently. The plastic garbage bin can really hold onto odors, even if you have nothing smelly in there currently. Try washing the plastic bin out with Ajax powder, give it a good scrub, let dry. I also use my disposal a lot. I made sure to get a 3/4 hp Waste King which is powerful with a lot of torque. I even put chicken bones down there. I agree with the other poster who said even if you install some kind of metal shield, you will still get hit with the odor when you open the garbage pull-out. So those shields take care of the symptom, not the underlying cause. As I said, scrub the bin out, use the disposal, and take out the garbage with more frequency....See MoreTrash pull out cabinet or stand alone trash??
Comments (7)Gizmonike, Are those electrical outlets above the garbage pullout? How did you modify the upper drawer so that it would accommodate the outlets and so that the drawer front would slide back and then over the outlets like that? Fantastic idea. I also had the idea of putting a shredder on the garbage container in the back of the pullout cabinet so that I could use it for paper to be recycled, which would necessitate an outlet inside the trash cabinet as well. Is there room inside the cabinet to accommodate that?...See MoreAnyone have problems with their pull-out trash cabinet?
Comments (35)One of my client's broke her pull out which is a cabinet door attached to a bottom mount pullout. She said she was pushing trash down into it (which I believe, she was probably cramming). She said drinking was not involved, (which I don't really believe). Anyway it can't be fixed without replacing the bottom of the cabinet since the screws split the cabinet floor when they pulled out. I think it is a design flaw, and would recommend a top-mount style....See MoreKnob placement on trash pull out cabinet
Comments (14)Mileady - I have the same situation you do with trim on the door, knobs, and bin pulls. One idea I don't mind is to put the knob in the middle. The other I'm tossing around is to buy two handles that go with my other hardware - one for a horizontal cabinet with a hydraulic hinge that needs to pull "up" and one for the trash pull out. I also have a cookbook shelf turned to the side on the end of a run of cabinets, which means there is a false door on the front. Of course that door needs a pull of some sort, but I keep imagining someone coming over and yanking on it thinking it's functional....See MoreRita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real
