I really like the combination of white, oak (or the color you have on the wood floors) with navy walls. I would leave the little wood strip on the cabinets myself. I think butcherblock counters wood look very nice and I think they are not real expensive. They even have a laminate that looks like butcherblock. I would go with all white appliances, so that the appliances blend in with the cabinets instead of standing out. In a small space I think that makes it look bigger not having the contrasting appliances breaking up the space. I did quick search. This somewhat gives you the idea of the navy with white cabs and butcherblock counters.I saw that star on the counter and thought how a unique light would be a cool focal point. Do what ever you are drawn to, but have it be something different that really draws the eye. Then do under cabinet lights or if possible a couple recessed ceiling lights on the sides? Just a thought. :-) Have some fun with it! Edit: I just had another idea pop in my head haha! Why don't you make a wallpaper panel with the WP you found at the thrift store! Then it isn't a big deal if it isn't the stripable kind. Plus you can take it with you if you do decide to sell someday. I think the idea of "timelessness" as a trend is in contrast to other periods where being as "modern" as possible was seen as the end all and be all. For the most part, people in the 50's who were choosing all the chrome-bedecked, streamline appliances as well as brand new materials for their kitchens were going for a look as modern as possible. The thinking THEN was that things would keep getting every more "modern" with time. Not that the pendulum would swing back to first, Coloniawful and then 80's country. Actually, the 80's is a pretty good example. You had two streams - one that was all curves and chrome and "modern" (and something of a throwback to the 50's) And the other was painfully country Which rather reflects the dual streams now of "modern farmhouse" kitchens vs. entirely "modern" kitchens with slab front cabinets, lacquer, etc. Although, the 80's (like the 50's) featured something of an obsession with everything in the kitchen being new, for newness's sake. Even that country kitchen was never spoken of as being "timeless". It was what it was, and nobody tried to pretend it was going to be in fashion forever. Now, BOTH camps think their style is "timeless", while in reality neither will be. Because fashion is fickle. Eventually we'll get collectively tired of "modern farmhouse" (some of us are already there). And the "modern modern" kitchen will give way to the next round of technological advances that will create new style opportunities that aren't fixed in place by what was possible with the old. I think the obsession with "timeless" is a symptom of societal anxiety and a little guilt about spending the money (well, I'm only going to do this ONCE, so I'll make sure it's "timeless" and then it will be worth the expense).

Congrats on your new home purchase! Can you take a new picture of the kitchen in natural lighting and post it? I am guessing that the listing photo must have had the colors majorly enhanced? I doubt the cabinets are actually that intense of a reddish orange. I am sure they look beautiful in real life! I think SW Grey Owl is a nice color. Doesn’t it usually have more of a green or blue undertone? I notice that your wall, baseboard, and even the stainless appliances seem to be reflecting off the orange cabinets and floor. Now I am not suggesting you should paint the wood cabinets because they appear to be in great condition. But I was just curious what it would look like without so much orange. I tried making the cabinets an off white and making the walls more grey. You really notice now how peachy pink the baseboards look. That is why it would help to see the kitchen‘s true colors, if they are indeed different than the listing photo. Another idea to break up the wood is to add glass inserts to a few of the upper cabinets.

@naveenRakkar yes I plan to look next week. This gives me a starting point since much of our home has these whites. I am curious-did you use Lucent with one of the white paints in particular that I mentioned above?
