I've been working on just the right white for months, and have many, many painted samples! What I have found is that the color looks different in EVERY room, so what works for some here, may not work for you! My kitchen is really sunny and bright, I found BM Simply white stark. I really like BM white dove & SW Alabaster, and find them very close to the same color, with a same hint of a gray undertone. I am afraid though... that it may still read stark white in my kitchen. I have SW Pearly white on my walls now... from the chip, it is much darker than I would have picked, but I picked this because SW color matched it from a cabinet sample I liked. I have a whole wall painted, and sometimes it looks perfect, just a soft off white, other times it looks a bit dingy. I'm leaning a bit more to SW Creamy (it matched another cabinet). White and yellow.. two very hard colors to chose, but I think you need to get samples and see large size samples in your space. The colors change dramatically from one room to another!

Nlpie, I'm a little late to this party but have my 2 cents to add. Also, want to echo others comments that you have a gorgeous house and cabinets. First, a good friend of mine had her cabinets painted by a top notch professional crew. They did a first class job, and the finish held up for years. I think that with some changes you can have a wonderful kitchen either staying with natural cabinets or going creamy off-white. I'm mainly struck by your your lack of artificial lighting. The pot lights aren't even on in the kitchen ceiling. If there are no under cabinet, or above cabinet lights, please add both. Rather than just changing the lighting above the island, what about adding two skylights if this is a single story house? There are both layers of artificial light and skylights in my kitchen. It all makes a huge difference. Along the same line, I would add 3 floating shelves on either side of the large wall clock. Have led lighting built into each self to shine down, with lighting to shine up from the top shelf. Then add fine art decorative glass vases on the shelves. Rather than the clock, replace with a large painting which will have fine art lighting. Both the counter and the back splash go well with the wood cabinets. However, the counter and tile do not look good together imho, too busy. I would go with the cream crackle tile bluebell has shown, whether the cabinets are painted or not. It's always fun coming up with ideas for others to spend $$$. I'm really looking forward to seeing you kitchen when it's completed.

I happen to dislike white after 18 yrs of it all over the house and spending the past few years in the hospital with my mom. We all associate white with hospitals now. @iam702 I like a light grey as a sophisticated timeless neutral long before it became a trend so I'm not worried about it. I am planning on a zinc perimeter counter so maybe that will help reflect some gray. @anglo your cabinets look gorgeous. I put a sample of SW super white against the door and it's helping with the contrast. Very slight but it's there. I picked a gray that is a bit greige because the other undertones come out baby blue with my natural light. There's not a lot of walls in my kitchen. Only the windows area with 3' and I don't think these cabinets reflect. They look even whiter in pic #3 where I contrasted them against the Ralph Lauren cabinet interiors. I should have painted larger pieces of wood than the 36"x18" ones that used. That would have shown me that I needed a deeper color with my lighting. Thanks everyone for the support. I'll live with them and figure out a way to alleviate the subconscious emotional distress the whole family will have. It's another expensive mistake that I learned and will pass along with the trick to avoid the same issue.

Well you can, but if the paint police find out, I’ll disavow any knowledge of it ;-) You’re not really looking for a “brighter white,” you’re looking for a tile and paint combination with similar undertones. White Dove is a yellow white. If the tile you love makes this apparent, try a white with cooler undertones. Chantilly Lace is beautiful, and much cooler than the White Dove. It might be a great choice. White Dove Chantilly Lace
