Architect cost question

picturebug

We built our house in 1996. We never used an architect then- I just drew up basic plans on paper and the contractor made it happen. Around 2010 a friend and his architect son happened to stop by and we got on the subject of things we'd do different in building our home. The architect son later sent us a one-page basic architectural rendering of an addition with floor plan and 4 different exterior perspectives (roofline and 3 sides). It was nothing we'd asked for, or really planned to do, but still a nice gesture. We never paid him at the time. We recently decided to act on it. Would you feel compelled to pay the son, and if so how much? A local contractor was given the drawings and modified them slightly. Let's hypothetically say the addition will cost $100,000. What would you do or how much would you pay the architect son? Neither the friend or his son live around here so it's not like he'd benefit from free advertising.
