Silgranit sink color for Alaska White granite?
Comments (16)Thanks for all the help, suggestions, and things to think about. And pictures! It sounds like I could probably do any of the colors and they would work. I guess I do need to think about wanting the sink to stand out or not. Probably not. Why draw attention to the dirty dishes sitting in it?! (= The truffle does look like a perfect match, and your CC and biscotti is beautiful. I'll guess I'll have to wait until I can see more items together, or until my designer can because some decisions will have to be made without me. But not without my input! The metallic gray might be great, or maybe not given my floor will be silver. The brown I'm afraid may be too dark. I'm not really doing much black so probably not that even though I love black. I guess I'm back to the lighter choices. And was I not thinking darker when I started this thread? Now you understand why I'm driving my poor designer crazy. :)...See MoreCrack in my granite 3 months after installation
Comments (20)jean12388 is the crack real close to a corner of the cutout hole, or is it somewhere in the middle of the span? alwaysfixin, before the cooktop gets placed into the cutout hole, you can see the raw edges of the entire hole. If it was cut with four straight saw blade cuts, you can see that by the way the corners look, where the saw cuts meet. If the corners were first cut with a drilled hole, to make a rounder curve that the saw blade cuts up to, that would be visible. Diagrams showing this can be found on the web. I saw diagrams like this in a technical training document made by a quartz manufacturer. Drilling a large hole in all four corners will make the four inside corners rounded after the saw cuts the straight sides. A rounded corner is far less likely to generate a crack. A sharp inside corner is more likely to generate a crack. The crack starts here. hth...See MoreNine Month HD Granite Nightmare
Comments (31)I’m compelled to share my experience with purchasing granite from Home Depot since this, along with EFS’s post from back in March concerning Antique Brown granite, caused me many sleepless nights. It is clearly correct (as I’ve read on GW) that your experience with HD’s kitchen design staff/granite journey is regional and, in the case of fabrication/installation, dependent on their subs. I have used a local fabricator to fabricate and install Danby marble on our island and the countertop and backsplash on a small hutch area, as well as granite on a vanity in our guest bathroom. I had no problem at all with their craftsmanship, but their business model was another story altogether. I took a full three day’s (separately) vacation for them to work at my house only to have them not show up; each time they’d call around 7pm to apologize and say they were stuck on another job; one time an installer showed up on a Saturday when I had no idea he was coming; no one would commit to scheduling or selling me anything without talking to the owner first, etc. They exhausted me; friends who’d used the other local fabricator had horrible work done...pieces of granite turned willy nilly and seams that weren’t remotely matched, etc. I told my husband we might as well try HD for our perimeter cabinets (I knew I wanted Brown Antique to go with the color we painted our existing cabs and the Blue Box didn’t carry it) and solid surface for our laundry room. Literally EVERYthing HD and their subs did was professional and timely in every way. I received phone calls to schedule each and every step...and the appointments were kept! - as well as confirmations (measuring, viewing/selecting slabs, install, follow up after install) and the craftsmanship is impeccable. You cannot see the seam in the Antique Brown if you are standing anywhere in the kitchen other than right over it and looking for it. It is even better than doonie’s. Such a relief. I hope that everything has worked out for simbasue. Meanwhile, I live in KY, 40 miles south of Louisville, but their granite fabricator is KBR and the installer was Top in Counters in Cincinnati. I couldn’t be more pleased. My only complaint is I received my first speeding ticket in over 15 years on my way to select slabs :-( … they were very gracious about me being late for my appointment! Sorry for such a long post, but what a RELIEF!!!...See MoreHELP!!! Fantasy brown quartzite or alaska white granite?
Comments (40)Alyssa987 - I had Dallas White on my list for a short time because it was a lighter granite but it wasn't one that I loved and swooned over. The granite yards near me don't seem to carry a lot of white granites, so I haven't been able to see ones like White River or Colonial White in person. I read about staining issues with Kashmir White so I immediately took it off my list. It's tough because the different granite yards call the same granite different names....See Morewilson853
