Opinions on GE Cafe Series Range wanted

Okay, we bought this GE Cafe Series range in matte black (it’s definitely not black) and would love some expert opinions. Please don’t mind the mess- we are getting to this part of the house for floors, etc. Originally I had my mind set on the Kitchenaid with the baking drawer because it’s stainless and pretty. My husband is the cook. He really wanted double ovens, plus the burners are a bit better. I’ll stop yacking. Question: Should I have gotten the matte white with brass hardware? That’s literally the only one I see designers use and am afraid I made a mistake. This was a big deal- we had to get a gas line put in, etc. which is also an explanation for the oddly cut drawer fronts of the previous owners. Ah! Thanks in advance Houzzers. Side note- never saw this before I bought it. Nowhere in my city has these on display. Curious about the white looking any better. Opinions? Help!

IMO, the white GE Cafe with brass really only looks good with natural wood cabinets (see picture.) I’m not sure about with white cabinets. I think your choice looks good!

We went with the induction single oven in Stainless, but when they delivered it there was a large dent in the door, so we are waiting on a replacement. But I'm curious why you think the stove does not appear black?

It’s different in person. More dark gray than black for sure.

I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it.

There are two microwave choices, one being the standard unit (CVM2072SMSS) or the advantium unit (CSA1201RSS). I would choose the later because it has microwaving, convection baking, speed cooking (15 min baked potatoes for example), and warming. Definitely worth the extra - I love my advantium. As far as the fridge, are you talking the French-door bottom freezer or the side-by-side? I'm not a huge fan of the French-Door (CFCP1NIZSS) because the ice-bin is small and difficult to access, and the crispers and temp-drawer in the fridge are clumsy in the way they roll out. I've also seen more service issues with this Mexican-made unit. The side-by-side unit is very nice (CSCP5UGXSS) as it is roomy (24.6 cf) and has the dual-evaporator system (produce will last 2 times longer). But if you really want the French-Door style, the KitchenAid pro-line (KFCP22EXMP) unit is much better choice. The icemaker roll-out shelf can be locked onto the freezer door so when you open it the ice is ready to scoop without an additional step. And the crispers are on ball-bearing glides, as well as the large temp-drawer (chef's pantry) below the crispers. This temp-drawer is both taller and deeper than the GE unit as it's large enough to hold a 17" diameter platter. Here are the internal dimensions of each company's temp-drawer: KitchenAid - 26"W x 17.5"D x 5"H GE Cafe - 28"W x 12.5"-15"D x 4"H There may be a rebate incentive to do multiple Cafe units. I know our store is doubling the mfg rebate right now. And the KitchenAid pro-line handle is not exactly the same as the Cafe, but they are close in style to at least consider the KitchenAid. Built-in microwave to match GE Cafe series?

I am in the process of building and using the GE Cafe appliances. There is a new microwave in the series that is not an over the range. Its model# is CEB1590SSSS. I don't know if it's available yet, but will be by December. It is a convection/microwave unit which I thought was unnecessary since both the double ovens were convection. Two microwaves I am looking at are GE 1) ZE2160SFSS and 2) JEB1860SMSS. Good Luck and hope that helps.

The mother-in-law installed GE Cafe as part of her kitchen remodel 3 years ago. Gas range, OTR microwave, and 'fridge. The 'fridge died after 20 months and GE was kind enough to replace it for $700. Last month the $650 control board on the microwave went (GE isn't willing to do anything about that). So far the range has been trouble free. Personally, I wouldn't buy a GE appliance again.

I LOVE the white version of this range and considered it for a hot second but ended up going with stainless. I think it would only work if you match the white of your cabinets to it. Are your other appliances black?

I don't know if the white would be better, but the one you have looks really good. Don't underestimate the appeal of a black stove! The white would probably not be perfect with the cabinets or look as nice with the floor.

Thank guys, your input means more than you know. I feel crazy at times! I love being able to ask these questions to people to who can empathize. The rest of my appliances are stainless, to answer that question. The kitchenaid fridge with the wood inside is absolutely beautiful- so I’ll probably get that which means sticking to stainless. I can always get my cabinets painted? Lordy.

From this pic it looks good. Can you take a few more from farther away?

FYI, I have a 10 year old Cafe range and love it. The design is a bit different bc mine has a full sized main oven (a 28 pound turkey fit easily!) and the lower oven looks like a warming drawer but is a real oven. The stovetop is used daily, the main oven multiple times a week. Lower oven a few times a month. It’s great!

A white stove would have been hard to pull off with your cabinet color, as already mentioned. Appliance white is pretty stark and can look "off" with white cabs which are rarely appliance white. My choice for a stove would have been stainless, BUT your stove has some stainless on it and should work okay with your other ss appliances.

I went with the induction version, and so far I'm liking it. It is a big change from my last stove ('73 harvest gold electric coil) so it takes some getting used to all of the heat settings. Also, because our sink isn't hooked up yet I haven't done a lot of baking, but it has been good at toasting/crisping with the convection setting, and the controls are very easy to use/see.

Thank you. I’m deciding between the GE and a kitchenaid with the baking drawer. I like having the option of two oven temps without two separate ovens. So much to think about!

I would have preferred the two oven version mentioned above, but we got it as part of a black Friday combo, and our store didn't carry the double oven in SS. I chose the Café because I wanted induction and knobs, the warming drawer was a bonus I'm not sure I'll use, but I do love that the oven has a 'proofing' setting.

joy- can you take a picture if your black range with other stainless appliances? I’m thinking of doing this in my new kitchen.
