The damage from an over application of fungicide is to the soil microbes where the plant roots are. When the beneficial microbes are killed off, the plants growing there suffer. Those microbes are responsible for the nutrients your grass gets. You can also look for the soil to become extremely hard, not compacted, but hard. The soil can recover but not until all the fungicide is decomposed. Because of the negative effect on the soil, fungicide is one of the worst things you can apply to turf. It should be used with the most care. If this is St Augustine grass, there is an organic alternative which has worked for me every year since 2002. It seems to work for other types of grass, too, but it definitely works for me on the typical springtime diseases. The product is ordinary corn meal - yes the same stuff you cook with, only I get it at a feed store in 50-pound bags for the size and coverage I need. It cannot hurt your soil or grass...unless you completely smother the grass in it. The normal application rate is 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. If you double that rate, no problem. If you quadruple that rate, you will know because you won't see grass anymore. Apply it, wet it, and let it work. Corn meal works through a biological process. First come the fungus species which decompose the corn meal. Then comes a predatory fungus called Trichoderma (try koh DER mah). The trichoderma wipes out the fungus growing on the corn meal and then looks for other fungi growing on the surface of the soil. The fungal disease is right there and becomes the next meal for the trichoderma. This process takes about 3 full weeks to see results. Corn meal is also a passable organic fertilizer. What this means is that if you only apply to the spots obviously affected by the fungus, those will turn dark green. To avoid having dark green spots in your yard, you should apply the corn meal to the entire lawn at the same rate. Corn meal will not work if you have already applied a chemical fungicide because the fungicide kills off the naturally occurring Trichoderma. Corn meal works on the most popular lawn diseases with the exception of any diseases characterized by red colors. So red thread and rust seem to not be affected by corn. At your feed store don't become confused by corn meal and corn GLUTEN meal. That is a different product and will have no effect on the disease in your yard. It is also much more expensive.

Gorgeous shots! I understand Austin thinks she's his best. My regret is the zero lasting power for a bouquet. Mine also gets rust/blackspot in the late fall (no spraying). And she took longer to establish than any other rose I've had. Abraham Darby settled right in but Heritage didn't show her power until year 5 or so. Since then it's been gorgeous displays.

I have a Henredon sofa I purchased in 1973, and it has moved around the U.S. every 2-4 years for the 31+ years of my career. This sofa moved at least 12 times, across country. The sofa has not only held up beautifully with all of the moving, but it is still wonderfully comfortable to sit on. It is still the LR formal sofa. I've had the sofa reupholstered twice, and have changed styling with each reupholster, tweaking it a bit to update. For example the last reupholstering done 4 years ago removed the sofa's skirts, allowing the finished legs to show. The sofa's down cushions have been replenished over the years. And the sofa is still wonderful to sit upon. Because the sofa is almost 40 years old, it does not have the oversize seating space that many of today's styles have. At 5'6", I find today's oversized sofas, chairs, etc. uncomfortable to sit in. I much prefer the older, "standard" sizes. I'm a firm believer in purchasing top of the line furniture, taking good care of it, and reupholstering whenever the furniture needs it. Here's a photo of my 38 year old Henredon sofa.....You'll note 3 other chairs. The tallest chair has only been moved once, as it was purchased 5 years ago (it is a Southwood). The other 2 chairs were purchased in 1973, and they've been transferred and reupholstered each time the sofa was. These 2 chairs are not Henredon. The overstuffed chair is a Clayton Marcus, which in 1973 was a high quality piece of furniture (although not as good as Henredon). I can't remember the maker of the occasional chair. But you can see how well these 38 year old pieces of furniture have held up with the demands placed on them. (In fact, when I had the overstuffed chair with its back to the camera reupholstered in 2006, I dramatically changed the looks of the chair to update it.)

I agree with Jeri regarding the wall being hot, so that will have to be taken into consideration. Also, being in Australia, one has to look at what roses are available there. The rose I am going to recommend is an older rose. It is not an antique rose yet but getting there. It was also available in Australia (and hopefully still is). The rose was bred in an area where heat in summer (38 C plus for three to four months) is the norm. It is thornless and fragrant. It is also a repeat and it does get BIG. It is Renae. It was bred for disease resistance. Overall, great and beautiful rose. Renae
