What should i do with this space?

It’s just a random small space off the master bedroom. Googling “indoor balcony“ gives me some ideas. Our Realtor said some people wall it off and make it an extra closet. Prior to doing anything so permanent. Any idea on how I can decorate this space? Bonus points for anyone who knows the official term for this space

That space is for when your husband is in trouble and needs to sleep somewhere else. I think you put a recliner there. :) hehe

I would call it a balcony. A closet seems to be a better use of space, although it does bring natural light into the second floor hall. If you are good with closet space, I'd leave it.

Call it a nook, then make it a cozy spot to read.

Sorry to be putting this here.....I don't know how to post a new message, only how to respond. Yes, the tile (travertine) is in most of the house, including the upstairs (extra bedrooms, theater room and game room have carpet)...the family room has a large sisal rug and our bedroom and bath have wool area rugs. The house has some angles that make the pattern be diagonal rather than straight in parts of the house. We are in SoCal so the bare floor works here. SOOO sorry for the big pics, I have been trying to shrink them for 20 minutes and this is as good as it got...and again so sorry to add this to the original post....

Part of the reason for a low number of responses could be that it posted on Saturday -- I don't think weekend posts ever get as many responses as weekday.... and it could also be that it has people stumped. I've looked at it for a couple minutes and the only thing I have are questions, no ideas. So here are my questions: - do you have another office space? Is keeping it useful as an office space something attractive to you or any homework do-ers in your house? Because if your answer to that question was "yes", then I'd suggest moving one of the drawer bases on the right to the left so that you have enough space to put an office chair on one side or the other. Even though you don't need a workstation spot anymore, it's nice to have a place to work remotely, or pay bills, or have a child sit in your eyesight and do their homework. -- if you don't want it as an office space, I'd probably try to get cabinets that match the original ones and put more drawers or storage space in there. My dog would love an under-cabinet space, but I'm not quite that generous -- not when I can have more storage. If your cabinets are no longer available, it seems you could do a custom piece and paint it an accent color --- or maybe repaint the whole lower cabs if need be-- lots of two-tone beautiful inspiration kitchens around here. I'm tapped out.... anyone else?

Yay Oregon! (I grew up in eastern oregon and live in portland.) It think any pre fab structure you add to that patio is going to junk it up. Also, you'll be surprised how quickly that patio surface fills up when you add a seating area and/or a dining set with proper walk-around space. I'm thinking you could have some kind of cantilevered shelter built with posts on the hill side of the patio. Something like this, but with proper roofing

In a more refined time it would be the perfect place for a writing desk and chair.

In all honesty, I think it can be whatever you need it to be. It looks like a sitting area to me. Possibilities are endless and could be directed by your house layout and needs.

Put a big comfy chair, small table, lamp, and read a book or drink coffee/nightcap there.

Maybe use it as a dressing area or makeup area with those great windows.

Recliner and small tv and mini fridge to watch tv after hours.

Game table for your nightly battle of scrabble.

Lots of options!

Yes, a little office space is good too!

I kind of like it. I have things in my bedroom that sort of need to be in there so my kids don't get in them, but I'd also like them to not be in my bedroom. That space would be a way to have it close but out of sight.

Here's kind of a crazy thought. You could hang curtains from the ceiling in front of the railing. When you wanted privacy, close the curtains, otherwise leave them open for the light from the windows.

It's called a Juliet Balcony. Neighbors had one that went from an unfinished attic and overlooked their family room. The next owners had the space walled off and the balcony removed.
